Default oil pressure lower with my new ported pump

my new ported pump's oil pressure is 40 at idle and wont go past 60 when i give it alot of gas, my old pump made 50 at idle and over 75 when giving it gas. i know i put the o-ring on right cause i double checked it, could it just be my sender. also wheni first started the car it made 55 at idle but ti slowly went lower. IS IT THE SENDER?

My guess is that its not the sender. could be a bad pump, but pressure always lowers as the oil heats up. People are prob going to say its a badpump. and it might be. who made it? And pressure is higher with the higher flow pump. i might think about a new pump. Call the vendor though.

Pressure is not increased with a simple ported oil pump. It will actually be decreased due to the larger area. However, most people who do port pumps also shim the spring to raise the pressure b/c of this. You just have to figure out whether your pump was shimmed or not. If not, there's the answer. Either way, 40 at idle is plenty, you can have 20 at idle and be fine. The rule of thumb is 10 psi per 1k rpm's.

Think about it this way, it takes less force to push (or pull) a quart of oil through a "ported" pump because "porting" theoretically creates laminar flow or non-turbulent flow by modifying the flow path of the oil making it easier for the oil to move through the pump.

Higher pressure is good all around.

Or just think about what happens when you place your thumb over a garden hose...pressure goes up, remove thumb (restriction) pressure goes down. You need to shim the spring in order to raise the pressure back up.

not necessarily true. If the oil pump is ported and you raise the pressure too much you will in turn end up pumping the oil pan low of oil at high rpms due to the higher volume of oil being pumped out. It takes time for the oil to run back down to the oil pan after making its way up to the top of the motor. A little pressure is good though. I run about 50-60 cold and warm i sit right at 45 or so with it jumping to 60-70 at wot.
