Gears & Axles - **Pro's and Con's to 4.10's or even 4.88's?

I have the usual 3.42's in my M6 SS and my dad told me that 4.10's would make the car feel sooo much faster. I really don't see a point in 3.73's. Will the 4.10's really make that much of a difference? He ran 4.88's in his 69' camaro and said it made all the difference in the world. Will traction be a big problem? I have some pretty sticky 295's out back and I barely bark second if its hot out. I rarey drag race, more often from a roll at about 10-15mph. But if I did launch from a deadstop, would it be more dificult? The car just bogs now anyway. I guess I need to learn to launch in general . What will highway driving be like? I wouldn't think it would be that bad with a six speed- make some use of that sixth gear if anthing. Will my mpg suffer terribly? I average 15.5mpg now.
Also, could I do this myself at home? What does it cost for the gears and install kit? What would it cost for installation? Is it one of those things where i would just be better off to have it done? And what are the best gears to get? I see GM Motives advertised a lot. Are they any good?

Oh yea, what about me running nitrous too? I plan on only spraying out of second gear, would I have to spray in the middle of second now? Thanks.

Hell yeh,
Go as deep as you dear, you got 2 over drives...and the last one (6th) is almost useless with 3.42's

definitely the 4.10's - with the tranny gears
they give us now, the 4.10's are "normal" rears-
nothing too wild. they are perfect for street or
hiway-uptick to 4.5.6, whatever, if you like.
the 4.10's are only a 20% increase ( rpms/mph)or
decrease over the 342's.
oh, have somewone install them who knows what they are doing!!!

I got my 4.10s put in today I do suggest you go ahead and put in the 4.10s. They make a big difference. You will use 6th gear alot more than you use it now not just on the highway. If you use the nitrous you better have some real sticky tires or it will do nothing but spin it wants to spin in 2nd now with just throttle. As for gas mileage before I got 22mpg I heard you should not notice a big mpg difference. You have to stay out of the gas though I used a 1/4 tank in no time but that was just to test drive it. Good luck.
