Default Ported/shimmed LS6 Oil pump

I just got mine from TSP just a few questions . How do you know it was ported and shimmed it almost looks like it was factory packaged do they open it port/shim it and put it back in the same box or is it a diffrent part # I was under the impresion that TSP dose the port and shim.. Also mine has some suface rust on the outside of the case not bad at all but sould I be worried about that

Verify your order with TSP. They may very well port, shim, put back in the box and send. The surface rust on the cover is common, don't worry about it. Clean it up a little and very carefully install it with the new o ring on the pick up tube.

Mine was shipped the same way. Still in the factory box. Dont worry though, I can assure you they ported and shimmed it as advertised.

When I installed mine a few days ago, I dissassembled it and mounted the pump body first, centered it on the crank shaft, oiled it up,then installed the gear set and cover. It was also very easy to see if I had the o-ring kinked or not.

I compared my new pump to the old one and could see where TSP ported it. I did not take the relief spring out to verify the shim though, but I bet its there.

I too had a little surface rust...no big deal to me.

Your in good hands with TSP.

i measured clearence and it was off from factory spec. I raither not have uneven wear on my oil pump so i spent the extra 10 minutes aligining it on the crank snot

I have been told it makes no difference....however, The General is doing it for a reason.....

I took a few extra minutes and aligned it. I think it was easier since I had the pump dissassembled.

Two feeler guages at .002. Keep them 180 apart and sweep it around the snout of the crank shaft. Even with only the body on the crank, its easier said than done. .002 is paper thin.

Install the 4 bolts and torque them to 45 in/lbs, then sweep the feeler guages. This will allow for some slight adjustability when you are centering it.

If you dissasemble your pump, its a good idea to lube up the gears before you assemble them. I used a straight 30 weight oil. The front cover gets torqued to 18 ft-lbs. A drop of Loctite Blue is good insurance.

Once its centered apply a drop or two of Loctite Red to the bolts and torque to 18 ft-lbs. Keep your feeler guages in place when you torque the first 2 bolts.

I used "How to Build High Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8's" as a referance for my cam swap. All this info came from there.

makes installs easier. modifications need to be made with clearance when you move your oil pump farther foward you have to move everything else. Just easier to use the LS2 chain unless you feel the dual chain is required for your application

Chains aren't really rated for hp.... more like spring pressure and rpm.

If you bought one of our ported pumps, it would be ported and shimmed. We send it out in the factory box and it's taped instead of stapled. Like has already been said, the rust is common. If you need anything else, feel free to shoot me a PM or give us a call!

if its rollmaster, theres no need for any further modification for clearance. I have it on mine. I also have TSP's ported oil pump. came in GM box...no issues.
