First races with new stroker(395)
Took the wife out to dinner Friday but didn't feel tired so dropped her off and picked up the Z. I went cruising around when I finally met up w/ a buddy who has an '89 or so GT. It's pretty much an all out race car, gutted interior, skinnies, trans brake & a well built 306. He runs 11.50's @118mph day and night.
1st race
We catch a light and I'm thinking ok I'll just gradually roll into 1st then get hard on it 2nd - 4th. Well the first race didn't go as planned since 1st gear was completely useless (315x35 Nittos@ 22psi). I tried rolling into it but the car wouldn't have it so short-shifted 2nd and he's 4-5 cars ahead of me. I do my best shifting ~6500 through the gears & got within a car of him by the end. It's a loss but not bad.
2nd race
On the way back we go from a 40mph roll. I'm lingering in 2nd and my buddy is on the right. Out of knowhere a 2002 or so supercharged GT comes up on my left. I honk 3x's & we all hit it. 2nd gear doesn't last long and I shift to 3rd. I check the left mirror and GT is knowhere to be found I check the right mirror and the 11.50 car is at my bumper. I wind out 3rd and shift into 4th ~6500. Mind you this is the first time I ever stayed in 4th w/ new combo (All I can say is holy crap my car has major top end). Half way through 4th and I check the right mirror and my buddy is at least 3-4 cars back.
We all pull over & my buddy is like, "dude your car hauls up top!..you pulled another car on me as soon as you shifted 4th!" He's like, "you have to be trapping ~122mph or higher and it 's gotta run lowwwwww 11's if you hook it". The other GT driver comes over speechless and is like, "bro, that car is f#cking fast, what's done to it?" My response, "ehhh, I have every possible bolt-on and a small cam". Poor guy...I didn't have the heart to tell him the real combo and he's probaby still wondering why he got slaughtered.
All in all it was fun as **** and I never thought how good 500rwhp would feel up top. I could only imagine what a 900rwhp cars feels like.
Combo = Eagle stroker(395ci) 11:3), Livernois Stage III heads(330cfm@.600), 231/236 .610/.620 cam(very quiet), FAST/NW, MN6 w/ 3.73's & Magnaflow cat-back.
