Default Problem with 315 - 555R's

Ok, me and my friend helped put 315/35/17 Nitto 555R Drag radials on Boyd Coddington Smoothie II's on his Trans Am.

Everything is good. BUT, we have a noise coming from the driverside rear tire that almost sounds like its rubbing. But its not rubbing at all.

This is only on the drivers rear side. It kinda sounds like it has a screw it it - but it doesn't.

The car did NOT make this noise before we put the wheels on.

its kinda like.... tick...tick...tick...tick...tick...etc. the faster you go, the faster the noise comes. its like - tick.tick.tick.tick.tick.tick. There is nothing stuck in that tire.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm thinking more along the lines of the tire hitting the inner fender well

You may need a ajustable pan hard rod. I had the same problem and it fixed it.

+1 on that, it will help center your rear end so you can adjust it so they dont rub. or you can get a hammer and wail(sp) the **** out of your fender.

I have the 315/35/17s on my car on a 17 x 9.5 z06 rim. I have sportlines also so i'm really low. No issues whatsoever.

The car is not lowered at all.

Didn't have to hammer the fender well. They fit perfect. The tire isn't touching the fender well whatsoever.

The passenger side doesn't make this sound.

How do you know its not rubbing? If you've just checked for clearence with the car up on jacks or with the suspension loaded and spun them that may not be enough. When there is a person or 2 in the car it will drop the car down some more and cause you some problems. If you dont have it doing on the passenger side, it sounds like you need a Adj. Pan-Hard Rod to get everything fixed up. My bet is your going to start seeing more wear on the driverside tire than the passenger if you leave it (from the driver side wheel being more to the center of the car)

yea wide tires and lowered cars have a tendency to get real close and/or destroy the life out of those bump stops..my friend has TTII's 17x9.5/17x11 and one of his rims on the inside is all scratched up and the bump stop on that side is as good as gone...i guess he never noticed it cuz the car has always been insanely loud anywho..thats one major thing to check for in my opinion with those size tires you mentioned
