Question help decode a VIN number please for a 79 firebird

hey i need help finding out what this car came with and how rare it is, this is a new project me and a friend are takeing on.

its from a 79' firebird

2U87W9N178922

all help will be greatly appreciated

N - Norwood assembly plant

sweet thanks bro, also do you know where a place where i can find out how many were made, its a 4 speed t-top car, i know not many formulas were t-top cars from that era

Call the local GM dealer and ask them for a VIN lookup, they can fax it to you

Just from a quick search, I didn't see a production breakdown of Formulas with/without T-tops, just Trans Ams.
