Default dual cutouts or true duals?

hey guys. i have dual cutouts as my setup right now. i luv the sound they make, especially at WOT! my car vibrates really bad when they are open though. i was wondering if i were to change to a true dual setup, just to make it a lil quieter, would i lose any hp? i have my cutouts right behind my lt headers.

I'd guess you'd be making roughly the same power. TDs will be loud regardless, especially if you dump them before the axle. Do you have cats?

wow, never thought it was a stupid question. i would rather have my car still ride smoothly and not sound like a damn race car all the time. especially if i take a girl out in it, maybe u dont have to worry about that, but i do. thats why i asked. i luv the loud sound, i just wanted to see if i were able to quiet the sound down by using true duals and not lose any power.

Yea, I know what you mean. My old '02 Z had 3" TDs, no cats, and 1-chamber Flowmasters dumped. My ex hated riding in it b/c we couldn't carry on a conversation. It was pretty F'n loud.

I have a similar setup as you, but my cut outs are electronic and I can close them whenever I want. You might consider doing that. I usually run mine open all the time, but at least I have the option of closing them from inside the car when I want.

Just go ahead and get electric cutouts. they let you be in control of the noise.

i have my cutouts right after the headers. i moved the o2 sensors up on the header so i wouldnt burn them up. i have never had a problem with my o2's. i leave them open pretty much the whole week, because i dont drive it during the week and my engine starts up perfect everytime. i dont have any cats on my car either.

alright.. i dont know why but i keep hearing backpressure will be a problem too and that i should put my cutout in a different position which in reality.. is only 1 foot down the i-pipe. i plan to put it RIGHT after the y-pipe because i had to have a cat welded into the i-pipe and theres no where else to do it

maybe on topspeed there might be a problem with backpressure. even then i dont know because ive had my speedo buried and pegged the rev limiter at 6500rpms and never had any issues. it is more common to put it farther back but like i said ive never had a problem with mine. i actually have never seen anyone else with their cutouts as close as mine.

question TransAm578, how are youre cutouts connected? i have mine at a 45 degree angle and my driverside cutout had to be welded on to the header. it was the only way to get it to line up right. did you have the same issue?

Hey LastLT1...my cutouts are not as close to the headers as yours are it seems. I have my cutouts off the y pipe about 10 inches after the headers, so I had no problem with the install. I have QTP headers, QTP y pipe with the cutouts. Your setup would be even louder than mine I guess, which is hard for me to imagine. How do you like yours?

oh i luv mine. i have pacesetter lt's then qtp cutouts directly behind the headers. i have a custom y-pipe and i-pipe connected to the stock catback. i moved my o2 sensors up on the headers so i wouldnt fry them. the sound is awesome, especially going through the tunnels. believe me, i havent heard anyone else as loud as mine yet.

Yeah, I dont think that you're allowed to use TD and quiet in the same sentence.
