Hey, if you want to pay $10K+ over go ahead. But I would keep the GT500 in strorage for the day it will be worth $2M!!!
Buy the Corvette, you will get more looks, more attention and you will love it. I have owned all kinds of muscle cars. The Corvette is the only one that envokes the reaction from non-car enthusiasts like it does.
Plus, you will have all kinds of great performance parts you can add, right now! GM is coming out with some new heads, intake and cam that is unreal and the price is very reasonable!!! I can't wait.
There will be thousands of opinioins on both sides, Ford vs, Chevy, but 9 out of 10 little kids will stop to look at the Corvette over the Mustang any day.
My first reaction to a car, that I can remember is a friend of my Father's putting me in his 62 Corvette to let me "act like I was driving". I was only 7 and it lit a bug in me like no other! It is the reason I love cars today.
Every time I get a chance, I offer to let a little kid sit in my Corvette. Usually the Fathers about puke, they think "oh my God man, do you want your car ruined". But, I tell them the story about me being little and getting to sit in that red and white 1962 Corvette and I will NEVER forget it. Heck, I can even still smell the guys Old Spice and smell of his cigars.
Buy the Corvette, unless you can afford to put the Mustang into storage and only drive it once or twice a month. That would be a pure investment. Heck I would do that, IF I COULD FIND ONE for sticker, or slightly under.
I love my Corvette, it is like no other car I have ever been in!

Tell a hot chick you just bought a GT500... and when she asks what that is and you tell her it's a $50,000 Ford Mustang she'll think you're an idiot.
Tell that same hot chick that you just bought a new Corvette and she'll ask for a ride in it.
Corvette > Mustang

no comparison. The Corvette is a much nicer car inside and out.
You can buy base model V6 Mustangs for $18K. That will tell you about the overall quality of the car. A Mustang that costs $50,000 is still just a Mustang. No exclusivity either, because you know they will sell the body kits and wheels for the Shelby, and every 16-yr old kid with a V6 or GT will have a car that looks exactly like your GT500, for about 1/3 the investment.

If i get a GT500 it's gonna be intil they go for MSRP or lower and If i did get the vette I know i'd be happy just needed opinions on what u guys thought....if i do get the vette my mod goals were gonna be long tubes catted x and b&b bullets, cold air intake maybe the stealth II cam and sometime put a maggie or kenne-bell on her and run 6-7psi...i think i'd be set huh....both are very nice cars and I'm a ford guy myself but i love C5 and C6 vettes....anymore opinions? thanx!

Even with a deal are you prepared for $750+ monthly payments? Not including insurance...
That's the real hold back from me getting a C6. :(

750 for 60 months of "only" 45k. Are you talking about a used C6 or financing it even longer?

Well If everything works out for me right I'm be coming in to a large investment of money and I plan on payin cash for one of those cars and maybe get my own place and go to skool and save the rest. soooo with that being said no financing for me this time....so the only thing i really have to pay for are mods and car insureance which i can handle on my own...i was even thinking about a 06 GTO or maybe a 03/04 Cobra but I like the looks of vettes better and i can still kenne bell it too later down the road.

I wish my vette payment was only $750, lol. Try $948/month :eek2:
Even at $45K used, that would be a $900/mo payment for 60 mo.

No way I would trade my C6 for a Mustang of any flavor. Two very different animals. Now I have entertained the thought of owning both before. I would sooner rag out a Mustang that I would a Vette. I wouldn't buy a GT500, though. Too expensive for what you get. I've never paid MSRP or more for a car and never will. That's just throwing money away.
As far as M6 vs. A6, I am now torn. I am getting spoiled by the A6. Sometimes I miss the M6, but most of the time I am glad I don't have to mess with the stick anymore. Maybe I'm just getting old. :)

Yeah I was thinking $10k down so you have a 45k principle, at 72 mo (since I'd keep it 6 years anyway 'till the C7's come out) that leaves you in the ballpark of $750 per mo with a credit score over 730 allowing a decent interest rate.
$950 per month. ouch. The good part is that when you want to cash out you'll still have half of the price coming back into your pocket. Even at 6 years old with 80k miles you'll still get 23k minimum which will help with the next car.

That depends on your budget. I traded my '03 Z06 for my C6 Z51. It's a very small step back in performance (very small) stock vs. stock, but I really like the C6 better than I did my C5. It's a much more refined car. If you plan to mod and race, I'd stick with the C5. If you can afford it, mod and race like Tony did with his C6. :)

the newest C5 Z06 is already three years old and selling for approximately $30-35k, more or less depending on miles/options, etc.
you can get a new '07 C6 for $41k if you shop around a bit.
I bought my '06 coupe Z-51 MZ6 3LT November last year for $43k, while dealers still had '05's on the lot. the car stickered for $52,800. (3LT is all options except NAV). I could make a similar deal today on an '07, I'm sure. the deals are out there, you just have to look for them.
used cars demand higher finance rates, and at least here in Dallas/FtWorth, used cars get socked with higher sales tax as well.
one more thing to consider is insurance. rates are going to be less on the vette than they will be on the mustang you mentioned, I'll guarentee that because I've already checked.
bottom line, for the kind of money you gonna spend get the C6.
Good luck which ever way you go, and let us know what you decide.

Buy the VETTE and be happy, buy the MUSTANG and you will always go, "I should have bought that VETTE!"
Seriously, the GT500 is overrated, the 2003-2004 COBRA is a better buy if you ask me, but as some previously mentioned, it is all a matter of opnion and you are going to get more bias opnions on the selection, because you are in a large GM based forum. If you go to a MUSTANG/FORD forum they are going to try and sell the MUSTANG on you. I honestly think that for a 500 hp car, it is completely overrated when you look at the numbers it produced in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.

Get a C6 and get an M6...I had only drove a stick twice in my life before getting my camaro, and it was 3 years prior to me getting it. I just drove it around the lot for like 5 mins till i got the feel of the clutch and shifting and then drove it home. Its not that hard and you will kick yourself in the long run if you get an auto.

I saw a brand new 30 day tag GT 500 at our 1/8 mile dragstrip, and it was a.......TURD!!!!!! It ran 83mph over and over at 8.4 sec....... yuck, for the money that thing is so slow. Go with the c5 Z06, the biggest bargin in performance car out there period! $28,000 and you have a beautiful car, and with the money you save get the STS or Procharger and leave everything else in the dust.

I'm 6'4" and 295 lbs. You will have no problems in the C6. The C5 Z06 may be a different story. You may have a hard time wearing a helment. I had to recline the seat slightly, and my head would hit the roof support in the Z06. If I were ever in a read end collision, I would have broken my neck. This was one other major reason I switched to the C6. There was slightly more headroom and the roof support is a little further back with the removable top in the coupe. I can rest my head comfortably on the headrest with the C6 whereas I could not in the C5 Z06. There is also a little more legroom in the C6.
I knew someone 6' 8" who drive a C4 Vette. He had to hunch over to drive it. I could barely ride in it. My knees were crammed into the dash. I could never own a C4.
