3rd gear vibration...WTF?
I just finished a driver's school at a 1.8 mile road course, over the weekend. Its the 3rd time I've been 2 this track. The track is mostly 3rd gear 4 me. In later laps and on the way home, I get a vibration noise (through the shifter) in 3rd gear above 2200 rpm. I have a short shifter (no more rubber bushing), but its been on for months, and the noise started yesterday. I had a similar noise in my 95 LT1 caprice that had a t56 & bushingless hurst shifter(only in more than just 3rd). My Z28 only has 24k miles, and is otherwise really nice. Its mostly just annoying, but a sign of damage I think. I know its probly due to the track abuse.
What specifically is damaged/worn to cause this? How serious is it?
How do I fix it?
If I need a rebuild, what specific upgrades will keep it from happening again, and what builder do u recomend?
I intend to continue to raod race the car, but I don't want it to seem like a beat on track car during its 99.5% daily driver time.
Thanks in advance 4 any advice!!

Thanks.
Also, the harder on the gas, the more intense the vibration...I was realy thinking this may be an iternal prob. I've had a broken trans mount in a f-body b4-shifter moves several inches on a hard shift. That isn't happening. And if I do same speed (and thus driveshaft speed)in a different gear the vibration goes away...seems to be 3rd gear only prob.

6600 rpm clutch dump of death Administrator
I've seen this before and it was a bearing in the gearbox. Under load it would vibrate and in 3rd it was real bad. Put it in 4th and it was smooth.
