Default a/c question

my a/c compresser does nothing when i turn on the a/c , everything works right , the fan blows and all but the compresser dosent kick on or anything , does this mean the compresser is bad ? ive heard the compresser wont come on if the freon is low , is this right , any recommendations or advice would be great .

The compressor will not engage if freon is too low. You can just go buy a can of R134 with a gage and refill it, but thats just a bandaid. The old refrigerant is gone because of a leak. Best thing to do is by the equipment to do it your self, or take it to a shop

I had this happen on my Firebird a while back. I tried everything but it turned out the compressor was bad and just needed to be replaced. I changed it out, filled it with freon and worked perfectly

take it to a shop and theyll be able to tell you where the leak is if there is any....when it starts to go low on freon the compressor will sometimes surge....did it do that?...
