Default Turbo timing...

This might be for the PCM section, but I figured it get more answers here. How do you start building a timing table for a turbo car? Right now I loaded in a stock timing table, but I dont want to drive down the road, hit 10psi and have 26*s of timing... something tells me that wouldnt be good . Anyone have a rough table I can have to start with?

I think 2* timing removed for every psi of boost is a good safe place to start

I took the stock table from an 02 Z06 and dropped it down to 12 degrees in the boost areas. Worked good, had no detonation.

I had planned to make a thread about how I am tuning my car since we seem to have a lack of turbo tuning info.

Do you have hptuners Carl? If so I can send you a couple .bin files to look at.

21 here at 20+ lbs of boost. I ran 25 deg at 15 psi peak (14 average) and went 151 though but that was on c16.

What kind of grams/second do you guys see under boost?

One could use a 3d regression program to generate the timing tables based on the factory table.

I limited my timing to 18 degrees WOT. Usually is good...unless I get stupid and pull multiple back to back high speed blasts. The added heat then gives 1 to 2 degrees knock retard. I worry most about the AF. I traded some HP for "safety"...running 11.0 ratio at WOT. Even then the instantaneuos reading spikes register as high as 12.2. I played with the timing a bit in the WOT ranges....but it didn't seem to make much difference on the AF ratios bewteen 17 and 20 degrees.

BTW, this is on 5PSI w/ mods listed below. Tuning is SD w/ HP tuners. It's a work in progress (that's on hold while I'm in the desert......)

Isn't there some sort of rule of thumb, ie. to reduce timing by 2 degrees for something? Not sure if it was each lb of boost or something else. Of course if you ran 15 psi you'd have to cut the timing back to 12 psi or run race gas.

If it were 2*s for every 1#, then at 15psi, youd be in the negitive timing trying to take out 30*s..

remember to have some correction for inlet air temps too. That is one of the most important things.

Yeah, I can't remember where there was this interesting discussion about timing.

I see a lot of folks running mid to high teens timing on pump gas.
