Default heads for g5x2

Any advise on a good set of heads to work with a g5x2 cam? Will the tsp ls6 heads work? Search is not working.

They'll work fine, man. Your budget is what determines that. Just remember to flycut and mill, so you get your best bang for the buck.

Depends how far you mill, and what LSA your cam is on.

Not necessary, but highly recommended for optimal compression. Just rent the tool from TEA or LG Motorsports. Or buy it and use your old head as a guide.

Would afr 205's work better? I would rather not have to flycut.

Of course. I would always do that if I had the money for it.

But either way, you still should mill enough that you need to flycut. AFR's give no additional clearance. I was also scared crapless of the flycutting. Then I realized how many people do it. And LGmotorsports and Brian Tooley both said it's as easy as changing oil, and "if you refuse to flycut you're saying no to 25hp". Why are you afraid to flycut? That's the bigger issue.

If you don't want to flycut the alternative is 1 of 2 things.

1. Another cam
2. Forged pistons with reliefs

Both will cost more money than fly cutting by far.

You can run a G5X2 without flycutting. You just won't have the high compression that you could have. It's great with stock heads. Keep it. On a 112 LSA. I'm just saying you're refusing to make more power just 'cause you're being vaginal and refusing to flycut. I just ordered the tool and will be flycutting mine in a few weeks if you want me to let everyone know how it is to pop my flycutting cherry.

I'm not refusing to do anything. I have just never done it or seen it done. I think it's natural to be a little apprehensive.

Close enough is close enough I think. Just do your best to get them the same.

Hi,

Did not flycut. Check sig (have AFR205cc milled to 59cc) and G5X2 on 114. Cometics = .040 as well. Revs to 6100rpm (understanding is stock LS1 revs to 58/5900rpm). I have much more drivetrain loss than many others due to drivetrain loss, so don't base your results on my numbers.

However, to compare. I went with a mailorder tuned LS1 Hotcam (219/228&.525/.525@112LSA). Truck did 347.6rwhp with the same setup and a quick tune by LG yielded no better than 355rwhp. Of course, I'll admit...N4cer's comment about saying "no to 25hp" could have convinced me to do it.

Seriously consider the AFR205s. Its kind of hard to say "no" to 40 guaranteed rwhp.

I wouldn't say that. I like AFR's, but my tuner told me not to waste the money... that the ones he's seen come in haven't been worth the extra money for 5-10 extra hp at the most. I actually also know another guy who is disappointed in his. That 40rwhp gain is NOT a sure thing.

I have a G5X2 at 112 LSA with AFR Heads milled to 60CC. I did not have to flycut. I am running a cosmetic gasket at .045. In my opinion, I would not flycut the pistons. Guys with a G5X3 at 112 LSA that did flycut and are running 59CC heads dynoed out at 6 more hp than I did, all on the top end. But, that was to be expected, given the larger cam. Mods were all the same and on the same dyno (SAE) on the three Z's that I saw (Mine is an X2 with AFR Heads and the other two were X3 cams with AFR Heads). This is on a Z06. One thing though is my car did pull a little better than theirs under the curve.

It is all up to you in the end. I would get forged pistons rather than flycutting, but that is just me. The reason I have not done this is that I have a new C6Z on the way and need to save all I can for this one.

I also know another guy and another guy and another guy and another guy who is NOT disappointed and 40rwhp gain IS a sure thing.....can't help your tuner isn't impressed - especially when compared to the other tuners and so many people on this forum who DO admit AFRs are good heads....funny how the dyno's showed it and that wasn't based upon the higher compression ratios and other things you can get done to them....

Like it was said already - check out lgmotorsports.com and just look at how many times it was repeatable that there were good increases (I'm using the word "good" in an effort to show some humility).

Th dyno sheets are there and don't try playing the dyno-queen thing.....

Not posting anymore cause there's no need to....

If even 1 or 2 sets don't give that 40hp, then there's NO way to say it's a SURE thing. Easy enough. Thanks for proving my point.

Not saying AFR's are bad. They're GREAT. Just don't get the wrong impression thinking they're 40hp better than another head.
