Default Tire Decision - Radial vs Bias Ply for 6 speed car

Hello,
I would appreciate any help in deciding what would be the better tire for my car. It is a 6 speed car that I plan on running into the 9's. I am having work done to the car to run a 15''x12'' drag wheel in the rear. I am deciding between the following tires:

Bias Ply
1. Hoosier QTP 28''x14.5x15
2. M&H 28''x14.5x15

Radial
1. Hoosier DOT Drag Tire 325/50/15
2. MT ET Street 325/50/15
3. Goodyear Drag Tire 325/50/15

I know some of the advantages of the Bias Ply are that they weigh less and I heard they launch better than the radials. The disadvantages are that the grow (causing more fender modifications) and cause more resistance.

Also, I will run either a bias ply or radial up front to match the rear.

Can anyone help?

Damn those things wrinkle like slicks! I've seen the sides twist, but never the tread patch like that photo shows.

Im running the regular M/T ET Drag 28x10.5 15 [3055] Seems to be alright. It is soft and floatie on the big end but it hooks up very well!

Yeah Tony, one of the local racers in a fox body Mustang had to stop using the MT DR's because he was going on the bumper every round. Jason Lee runs low 8's.

Mine would do that too. But I know when to lift. Well, I do now. I oilpan a year is my limit.

DO NOT RUN THE GOODYEAR RADIAL TIRE!!!!!!!! The absolute biggest pieces of **** out there. We actually tested a "newer design" set for them and gave them our feedback. This was after contacting and complaining about how bad the set I just bought was. The new ones were just as bad. Never heard back from them.

From what I have read the 6spd cars don't do as well on radials as autos. I would run a set of MT Race Slicks. But if your going to buy radials. MT all the way.

I agree.
I would just go with a M/T ET Drag for the 6 speed. If you were an auto I would say M/T ET Street Radial.

I'm running the 325/50/15 MT's with my new setup... 402/T56/9". It went 11.23 at 124 its first pass with a smoking clutch. 60' was only a 1.61... it went a 1.58 later that night but my clutch and posi are both shot. I'm hoping to go low 1.5's or maybe a high 1.4 on this tire come spring... we'll see.

I'm very impressed with the ET street radials. Ran 1.54 60ft and 9.8 @146 on 275 40 17's @ 3,800+lbs.

(It's a second slower on Goodyear Eagle GSD3's)

275/60/15 ET street radial here. Have yet to get it back to the track but I'm hoping for 1.6X

For a stick car, I say bias ply all day long.

I'm a stick car coming off the 6000RPM two-step on spray and I've never been able to hook a M/T drag radial to save my life.

On 26x10x15 ET DRAGs, I'm gone.

I run the MT drag radials on my M6 car, and they have treated me very well. I let loose on the clutch at 6500 and cut some high 1.6s.. Car is cam only, full-weight, 9" with 4.56s, and it hooks enough to make the car bog.

Best I ever cut on a 255/16 MT radial was 1.71.

Worst I've done on a 26x15 ET Slick was 1.69, and best was a 1.56. Car was setup the exact same way for all the aforementioned passes.

So for a 6 speed car, I say definitely go with a bias-ply.

i like the hoosier 27x11.5x15 qtp's i just got. they seem to be softer then the m/t streets though. they seem to hook pretty well. i cut a 1.67 leaving at 4k (bogging) on motor, i'm pretty sure the clutch was slipping at the time also.

I have gone 1.63 as a best ever on bias ply 26x11.5x16 et streets and then switched to a 255x60x16 et street radial on the same track and same night to run consistent 1.59 's for the rest of the night.

I now run 275x50x15's but only cut 1.678 the last time out as the track was bad that night.
