Cam swap with heads on?? Special tool for holding lifters?? I had a bad lifter so replaced the cam. I have 1 head off and the other side while spinning the cam could not get the lifters to stay up in the tray. What I did was tilted the car past 45 degrees and stuck a magnet in one...and luckily it worked. Is there a tool or some method to safely keep the lifters held up?
Someone told me they use a 5/16 rod?? or a JPR tool ?? what is that?
anyone got a write up or some pics?

www.LS1howto.com GREAT write ups with EXCELLENT pics for your needs. I think they decribe 3 ways to do it,,the pen mehtod being one, the cam tool form thunder racing being another,,cant remember the third.

you can also use hard brake lines. Just as cheap as the wooden dowels and you don't have to stick a peice of wood inside your engine!

I have used 5/16" wooden dowels in the past. Although after thinking about it more and seeing post on here, I don't want to take the chance of the wooden dowels breaking while in there. So today I went to Lowe's and bought some 5/16" metal rods that I will have cut to the proper length. And they cost me $7.60 for the two. I like the piece of mind though knowing that they won't break in there.

Yea, I'm pretty sure they are. You might have to sand the one for the passenger side down a little, but these will work as well as the metal ones.
