i used to use Mobil 1 but now i'm using amsoil and love it. It stays cleaner longer than Mobil 1 does for sure.

from hours and hours of reading on this site and bobistheoilguy.com, from all the people submitting their oil for chemical analysis, it appears as the German Castrol Syntec 0w-30 ranks as the best wear characteristcs on an LS1. i'm willing to bet that most of those cars see light to medium duty use and are not serious race cars, so an all out race car might have different needs.

I use plain ole Castrol Syntec 10w-40(American) It makes decent-good(40 idle/45-50 cruising) oil pressure and stays clean long.

NEVER! buy royal purple i wasted a **** load of money on a case of 10W-30 and made HORRIBLE oil pressure with it cause of it being so thin, and it got dirty very fast, its already purple out of the bottle but i mean after 1500 miles it was pitch black, so i switched back to syntec.
I kinda wanna try pennzoil platinum, but dont know much about it.

You probably pick up the extra hp due to the prevention of parasitic loss in your motor, meaning that there is no "drag" on your moving internals, meaning the oil is thin, meaning it doesnt protect as well.

I've always used M1, but last night I finally got around to changing my oil, and threw in some Rotella synthetic 5W40.

Of course you're not going to have problems. You have an LS1

its all about personal preference, i use mobil 1 just because my uncle used it in his gt, and a friend used it on his Z28. i was thinking about using royal purple, i've heard alot of good things about it. and i do notice that when i change my oil, it is pretty dirty. i have a friend with a SS A4 that puts down 400+hp, he uses whatever is on sale at the time, i don know if he's had engine problems....

My father-in-law treated his last truck like absolute crap. He probably had the oil changed 6 or 7 times total. He got rid of it when it had about 150,000 miles and it was still running fine. I'm pretty sure the only oil that truck saw was whatever Walmart put in their...plain old Penzoil or something.

Royal Purple and the likes might be good oils, but there are plenty of vehicles out on the road that are over 150k miles that have never had a drop of synthetic in them.

I use Leading Edge, It Mobile 1 with an additive and its cheaper. I have met the owner and he explained a lot about oils and such, he was a scientist with for mobile one and decided to make his own. He purchases mobile one at whole sale and does something with it (addative). Anyway though it works great. It only available at Orielys that I know of and it is made in Houston, so some of you H-town guys might know of it. I mainly use it cause like I said I have met the owner and it made in Texas. I change my oil about every 2k miles anyway and rarely get on my car so. hope that helps...
