Generation IV Internal Engine - Need a little help.....

Hey guys I have a 06 GTO A4. I have LPE cai as my only mod so far. I have $3200 to spend on peformance parts and want some opinions. I was thinking about tsp 228r or tsp 233/239. I would really like to get the 233/239 but will be working with the stock stall. Would that still work alright for either cam? Or should I replace one of the items listed below for a new convertor?
Here's the break down:

Heads- Patriot perf. 243 ported assembled casting (good to .650" lift) $1100
Headers- kooks coated 1 7/8" lt's w/o cats $1200
Cam- 228r or 233/239 cant decide. $400
Dyno tune $400
Total is $3100

You should get a good converter to really see the potential of that motor combo. A good converter such as a Pro-Torque will make a night and day difference. Leave the heads alone or just get some bowl work done, and get springs to match the cam, then spend the money saved on a good converter. Or sell your stock heads and save up a little bit more and add the converter later.

Exactly what I was thinking. How much would my assembled heads sell for? And would I be alright on my stock convertor untill I got the rest of the money?

I'd also recommend doing the Cam and Convertor rather than Heads and Cam. Best bang for the bucks. Headers are a must but you can probably find them used. As all the good ones are stainless now you don't have to really worry about rot like mild steel. Also, don't forget your intake path mods once the headers are on. Get a CAI like the LPE or other brand and get your intake manifold ported or go all out and get a FAST manifold.

I will definately be doing some intake mods as well. I already have LPE CAI, I have ported my throttle body and am going to send my intake manifold in for porting while everything is apart. Thanx!

Do those coated Kooks come with cat's or off road pipes?
What about a cat back setup? well the 06 does have a good dual 2 1/2 setup so it's not really required.

I was in a similar boat as you back in March. I decided on the Patriots -vs- having work done to the stock heads and upgrading the springs as it comes out to nearly the same price (and the vehicle downtime will be reduced).

Unfortunately the LS2 243 heads have become very comon and will probably net you a return of around $300 to $500 in most instances. These heads now come on the LS4 and the new DOD 5.3 Truck motor as well.

You may want to look at ls1speed.com as they have the ceramic coated pace setters for around $400.
I'm not sure how long the aluminized headers will last but if they are ceramic coated inside and out they should last a while.

GMHPP showed that going over a 220/220 cam with a stock LS2 head will not show that much of a gain.
They engine dyno'd a LS2 with a 212/214 (or something small like that) & long tubes and got 490 crank hp. They then dyno'd with a larger 224/224 cam and got only 5 more hp.

Basicly what I'm saying is this.
If you go with a 228 or larger cam then a stage 2 set of heads would be a good compliment and you can't beat the Patriots price wise (even compared to having your heads pulled, ported, larger springs installed, larger valves installed and re-installed).

Use the money from selling your 243's to purchase the stall later or maybe work out a deal with the parts installer to trade the old heads for a reduced price on a new stall converter (just a thought).
