Default shift light question

im going to be hooking up a shift light in a buddy car,question is where do i connect the wire to pick up the signal for the light to work??
do i hook it up to the coil like the old way[negative lead on the coil] or is there another place to hook it up on the fbody the car is a 99 z28 if it helps

If it is a 99+ car like you say then you hook up to PIN #10 on the computer. Its a white wire that hangs out of the rest of them a little, or at least mine did.

Theres a harness on the passenger shock tower that you can probe for a tach signal when you turn the key on initially. I always grab my wire there and wrap it with the rest of the factory harness then send it through the firewall. Its easier and it wont look monkeyed with if he takes it back to stock. I hate messing with the PCM connectors!

be sure to put it on 4 cyl mode if it has the option or it wont work.

This crank triggers dont read like a 8 cylinder because it has individual coil packs.

Damn I with I would have seen this before. I have been trying for 2 weeks to figure out why might light does not work. Even tried a 2nd light. I just saw this walked outside and switched to 4 cly and now it works.
