Rearend Question, who has stock 10 bolt with 400 horse and Torque?
Hello everyone,
Sorry if this is in the wrong section.
Who here has around 400 horse and 400 torque with the stock 10 bolt? If you do, how well does it handle the power. Just curious b/c I'm anxious to get my TA up to 400hp/400tq but the rearend upgrade is too expensive to have both; the HP and a 12 Bolt.
Thanks everyone

As soon as you put good tires on the rearend for some decent traction you will break it...so having lots of power without the rearend will do you really no good because you will have traction problems until you can buy a 9 inch or 12 bolt and some sticky tires, so get a rearend with some sticky tires...that will make you faster also, then start modding the motor.

I have about that torque and HP with the stock 10-bolt (see sig). I only run street tires and drive my car hard, and have fun doing it. Also, I made approximately 8 quarter-mile passes on strieet tires and had no problems. However, I do believe smokin t/a 600 is correct, if you put decent tires on you'll probably break it. But with that said, the car is still much more fun on the street with street tire and 400 hp then it was stock.
I hope that help.

i have 410rwhp and 370rwpb and with street tires i can break my gears any time i want by giving it full throttle. my last experience was spinning through first, second, and when third gear caught traction the gears went boom.

I snapped my 10 bolt with a lid, tb, and a cat-back. Broke the posi into three pieces. Due to budget constraints I installed one of those SLP/ Zexel posi units and it's held up fine with 400rwhp and 460rwtq. A nine inch will be on order after the first of the year, though.

There are guys on here with 500whp on stock 10 bolts. I drove the **** out of my last Z28 for 88k miles and the rear end never had a single issue. And I mean drove the shitout of it..........I threw a rod on a stock motor.

With that said i am gonna pull the rear end apart tomorrow and clean it up and change the oil. If GM says do it every 7500 miles I am doing it every 5 from now on. I bet most people have never changed it.......I know I didnt for the 88k I had my old one.

I've been on the 10 bolt since 03 with the current mods and GSD3's and it's held up fine. Probably 30 track passes. Times are awful but it beats a ride home with the flatbed driver. I just had new 555R's mounted and will be crossing my fingers from now on.
If I could do it over again I would for sure have an upgraded rear before the H/C! I know of some stock internal 6 speeds with 12 bolts who are faster than me ET wise.

MY buddies camaro has about 420HP, he has 275/40/17 Toyo T1-S tires in the rear and 4.10's and drives his car pretty hard and has no problem. The guy before he owned it put moser axles in the rear but that I guess that would just make the diff more vulnerable.
If you dont have the money for the 12bolt/9" do a few searches on a Ford 8.8 rear, I seen a few guy running these and they are supposedly very tough, plus you can pick one up for next to nothin of and old pick and have the extra money to build it to were it would need to be, or look for one for sale, I beleive most guys sell them for a little less than 1K built and ready to bolt in.

I'm at 411rwhp/401rwtq and I'm still on the stock 10-bolt. I did already break a carrier and went through one aluminum driveshaft. Now I have a Torsen unit and a stock steel driveshaft and the rear has been holding up just fine. I just make sure to load the drivetrain whenever I launch on the street and no broken parts yet. I run on 15" BFG's too. I don't launch high at the strip though, 3K is the highest and even that is probably pushing my luck (that's how I broke the last one).

numbers in sig... no rearend problems. I really think its a matter of how you drive your car. If you arent launching it off every stoplight you see you should be all set. A guy around here has 800hp at the rear wheels (with his 200shot) and still has his stock 10bolt
