Default Gas Tank Gauge messed up

Ok so my gauge has been messed up for a week or so. It eather says its 1/4 full or empty, and it doesnt matter on the surface angle. Sometimes I will leave the car for a day and then come back to drive it and it will tell me that gas tank is empty when it was 1/4 full the day before, then it will go up in the next ten minutes. I checked the car and I do not have any leaks of fuel whatsoever. Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks in advance.

I park on an incline and it seems to read higher when I first start, run a short errand and/or on the next restart usually shows a little lower, never higher. Does it work OK with gas in it? Not nice to your fuel pump to let it run low on fuel. Is it throwing the check gauges light? Usually with a bad sending unit it'll read high forever...

Yea sounds like the sending unit is going out. If thats the case, then you will have to get a whole new fuel pump assembly

If it's just the sending unit I "think" you can get it separately - know 2 guys that had to replace theirs - still have to pull the pump though.

If your able to find out let me know. When my sending unit went out in my camaro, I called everywhere from the shop and everyone told me I couldnt buy it seperate, that I had to buy a whole new pump assembly. That'd be pretty nice if you could find a place that sold it seperately
