Default STS guys (come inside)

What would you guys think of a non-intercooled sts kit with a master power t-70 with a .81 ar? I would be installing it on my 2000 ss that has all boltons. Also what cam would guys recommend for this setup. thanks.

what are your HP goals? do you really need the T70? stock bottom end?

I wouldnt do a T70 with a stock bottom end.. although it depends on what HP you want to run..

I think a T70 on a stock internal engine is overkill. A GT-67 is more than big enough for what I've got (see sig.) I also HIGHLY recommend an intercooler. My intake temps are about 106 with the FMIC, and were around 138 without.

I have a stock bottom end, but could I keep the boost around 6-7psi? The reason I am asking is that I could get this setup for a very good price from a friend.

My hp goal is around 460-500 right now, but I would like around 600 later with a forged bottom end.

Schantin, how much power are you putting down? I'm installing my cam now and am curious about what sort of power, how many miles are on your car? Everything running fine?

if your're shooting for 450-550. go with a GT-67.. if you have a built motor and want to run excess of 600rwhp.. go GT70 with .96A/R and meth..

i would call TRT and get a deal with them.. dont deal with STS.. they will charge you full price on EVERYTHING, plus TRT has re-designed some of the pipes, can get you a front mount.. and has great package deals..

if you dont have headers right now.. dont bother buying any.. go GT-67 .81 A/R or .96 for more highend.. use 42# injectors or if i were you.. go 60# mototron's, get your own boost controller, blow off valve is definately a good thing to have, DO YOUR OWN tuning or have some one with HPTuners to do it locally for you, .. you want your A/F's to be in the low 12.00's at idle and full throttle in the low 11.00's..

if you have a stock 10bolt rear.. you might want to take it easy on launches, if you have an auto.. get a heavy duty tranny cooler..

Cam isnt all that needed.. but if you wish, go ahead.. call up compcams and ask them about their turbo cams..

when you say "all bolt ons".. what are you exactly do you have right now?

Rick at Synergy Motorsports had a 2000 firehawk, stock bottom end with a GT-70 on 8psi and front mount. It ran great, definately smoked me with a
GT-67. It's possible to do, most guys will tell ya-don't go above 8psi on the stock bottom end. I did and - the motor went. Mkae sure you get a front mount IC, drop the compression with some heads and sespecially get it tuned by some one who's messed with FI cars.

My car has full exhast(long tubes), ls6 intake, throttle body, and a magnaflow cat back exhaust. Well the only reason I was going with sts is because I found a great deal, but if I have to go through all that with trt; I will just go with a procharger.

Rear mounts have their place.. front mount turbo's have theirs.. supercchargers are another way to go to..

but when you say you'd "rather go with a procharger".. you do realize you still need to tune it accordingly with HPtuners or EFILive.. and go with bigger injectors, possibly a new fuel pump.. (basically the same mods as the rear mount) but less hassel of all that tubing.. you cant just slap on a supercharger and call it a day.. not unless your TRYING to destroy the motor..

in the end its your car.. your money.. we're here to tell our experiences and what other supporting mods you need in conjuction with Forced induction. So weigh your options and money putting into it.. and make the call.. there is a wealth of info on these board for both super and turbo charging

Last dyno was 426/438 at the wheels SAE. That was with 5PSI. Tuning was marginal at best. I was lacking in the fuel delivery department. Since then I've upgraded the fuel system to a return style w/ a boost referenced regulator and did some HP tuners work in speed density mode. Probably up another 10-15HP from that, but no #'s to confirm.

Car currently has 23K miles on it. Drivability is fine. It is a daily driver, which is why I went FMIC over meth. Wanted cool intake air 24/7.

I have a set of LQ9 heads and an 8lb wastegate spring.....just waiting to get back from an unwanted mideast vacation to install them.

BTW, how much boost are you running for your #'s. 470+ is nice.

I agree with the Goblin. You will also want a full set of gauges to monitor everything, plus a quality tune. The costs add up quickly.

I made 475 rwhp with a lousy 60-1 with my STS!! So your goals are acheivable...BUT mine was 8 psi with an intercooler. You will need something to keep the IAT's down. I think your immediate goals, that turbo is too big, but it might work well for your overall goal.

at least put together a cheap e-bay intercooler setup, bought mine for $150, tubing about $200

Exactly, mine was a little more expensive, but not much. It's definitely worth it.

Since I haven't seen anyone say it yet, ditch the long tubes of you go with a rear mounted setup.

I run 11-15 psi on stock engines. I do replace head bolts with studs though. My wifes car runs 14 most days with a 72 , intercooled, water/meth and makes good power. Zombiess was on his stock engine for a long time and the only reason it died was low oil. I have another stock engine running a gt76 and 14psi. I have several others out there too. If tuned and MONITORED it can be successfull. I make all my own stuff, they are my kits.
I dont like 67's but on mild cars they are ok, I have several that have been traded in though, so most people do go bigger. I have a nice one with a broken shaft that was over sped a bit to much to. The car it was on is a stock moter, z06 cam, 3.00 gears and it picked up 5 mph at the same boost with the 76 and drivabilty is virtually the same with an auto.

thanks for the replys, deal fell through anyway. Probably going procharger as it is less of a maintenance intensive setup as opposed to turbo(know this from experience). Since 500hp is so achievable with a d1sc and a nice cam, I think I am going to go that route.
