Default s13-s14, curb weight after ls1 swap

I'm thinking about doing a conversion and was wondering how heavy the cars end up after an ls1 (M6) swap. I know stock they are ~2700 lbs.

Can you guys that have done ls1 to Nissan 240 swaps post your final weight, and a quick description of how much you've modded the frame (ie did you put a cage in, etc.)?

Thanks,

Joe

That thing must rock. Well, until you spun that bearing. Sorry about that, hope that works out for you. Thanks for the input.

Any others out there?

Sounds good. What kind of mods have you done to the car?

My '91 S13 Coupe SE with the sunroof weighed in at 2840 with about 10 gallons of gas in it. It was a pretty optioned out car though and after stripping the interior out and taking out the gas tank it weighed in at 2240. (that's with the KA24 and the 5 spd and it still had all the stock panels on it)

The LS1/T56 combo weighs about 100 lbs more than the KA24 5 spd that I pulled out of the car. Once I get more done on the swap I'll have 4 corner weights of before and after to compare. I'm curious how the center of gravity changes. My guess is that it will be pretty close to make just a little bit more towards the back of the car than it was before.

HTH!

Sounds very cool. So you think the ls1/t56 it will shift the weight further back? I'm really interested to see how the project works out.

That's my estimate because of the fact that the transmission weighs a little bit more. The T56 weighs about 130 lbs and the 5 spd on the KA24 that I weighed before I sold it was 95 lbs. Now the 130 lbs for the T56 might not include the bellhousing for that is just a weight I got from reading on the net. So, if a good amount of the 100 lbs more that is added on that the LS1 T56 combo that's where I got the estimate of it shifting the overall balance weight of the car a little bit more towards the center. It might be close to the same or maybe it will be forward more, I dunno, just making a guess.

I'm planning on lightening up the front of the car a lot later on so that will also change things around a lot. I'll post up all the info I get with corner weights and stuff like that later one, now it's on to work on the exhaust and getting the radiator mounted though so one thing at a time!

Oops, I was off by 12 lbs on what the car weighed when I got it. I just went and looked at my notes and it was 2828 for the total weight with around 10 gallons of gas in it. (that is if you want to call it gas after it sat for ~4 years) Here are the corner weights:

LF: 760 RF: 744 - 1504 lbs

LR: 720 RR: 604 - 1324 lbs

Total: 2828 lbs

After the interior was stripped and the gas tank was removed here is the weights that I got. This also included the 70 lbs exhaust that the car had on it for I hadn't taken that off yet. The 2240 weight was again with all the stock body panels in place and it didn't have anything in the interior except it still had the wiring harness still in the car.

LF: 648 RF: 636 - 1284 lbs

LR: 500 RR: 456 - 956 lbs

Total: 2240 lbs

Ted J, good info there, thanks. sounds like you have a nice project brewing. I'm more than a little jealous. having an ls1 in a 3600 lb car just doesn't seem as exciting as what you're brewing up. Good luck and keep me posted on how it is going.

I've been waiting years to do a swap like this. I've got a thread I've put up of some of the progess I've made. I'm slowly but surely working on it. I'm going to start working on it more now that the weather has cooled down some. I'm trying to do some neat stuff with this project that will make it take longer but I hope it will be worth it in the end. More details will come out later as to what 'neat stuff' it is that I'm trying to do. If you haven't see it yet, here's the thread. I update it every once in a while to keep people posted on the progress I've made, or lack there of as it's been lately since I have other projects I'm working on!

Ted, I checked out your work in progress, looks like fun and it's coming along nicely. I subscribed to the other thread so i can keep up with it and get some ideas from your experience.
