Default Power on an A4, or swap?

How much power can the stock A4 handle? If i plan on running Searous hp, what companys/websites sell a A4 that can handle Searous hp? Can i convert A4 swap it for a M6 also?

If i do decide to swap, i still would like to keep a 4-speed auto in place of the stock 4-speed auto.

i know that some of the forced induction a4's around albany run the chevy 400 tranny for handling the hp. I think thats the right tranny.

you can convert it to an M6 but i dont really think its necessary... a well built, strong auto is fine IMO. i know quite a few guys with TH400s also... its probably the best way to go. i have a TH350 in my green one but im still pretty stock. you WILL miss that overdrive though!

The stock 4l60e tranny isn't the strongest and it's a moot point on how much HP they can handle. Also heat and revs can be just as bad or worse. There are quite a few people with high HP running FI and normal rpms with a stock tranny. Where as there are mild cammed Ls1's busting 4l60e's. But often they spin higher rpms. How ever the opporsit is also true.

A tranny cooler and shiftkit (Transgo) are probably worth while and simply run it until it breaks then replace it.

Built tranny's are an option, lots of builders out there. FLT (Finish Line Transmissions) is a sponsor of this site. A built 4l60e is the route I'd go.

Conversions to other tranny's are also possible, TH400 is a popular choice, but you'll have to learn to live without lockup or OD/4th.

Check out the auto tranny forum for more info.
