Default Auto shifts really late

Whenever I floor the gas, the engine speeds up too high, sometimes 6k rpm. Is this normal? This happens especially in the lower gears. The car is an automatic so I don't know if theres something with the trans, or maybe something in the computer... I really have no clue. The car is a 97' z28 (LT1) with about 50k miles, im the 3rd owner, I think it's stock but not sure if anything has been done to it. From what I can tell everything is stock on it.

Check your fluid.

I think the stock shift points are set at 5700. The tach is very likely off by 300 rpm's at the high end.

That was the case with mine.

Everything with the fluid looks ok... anyone else experience the tach issue?

You could do a search. I'm pretty sure it's common for the stock tach to read a little high.
