Question Camaro idle tuning?

i had a buddy with a '99 Z28 that he had tuned so it idled like a carburated motor would or a 1st gen camaro...like it had a cam in it or something. i've got a 2000 SS that is stock for now, but i want it to idle like that so when it gets exhaust is sounds like a "REAL" muscle car.

how and where do i go to get this done? what has he done to make it run like that? is it just a timing advance or what? thanks....

you can pull the idle down to like 400 rpms or something like that and it might start to lope or cut out like it has a cam in it.

just put a cam in it, I did, it freaks people out when they hear it lope. here in CA most people never even knew fuel injection can sound that way

If your friend's car really thumps, it's got a cam in it. Only way you can get a stock cammed car to "lope" at all at idle is to turn the idle speed way down. I tried it when my car was stock internals just to see what would happen.....just got reeeeally quiet & sounded more like it was dying than loping. You want a choppy idle, you need a cam with some big time overlap.

ok guys, thanks. i've done some shopping, i AM getting a cam and a tune. too good to pass up.

as for my buddies car, it had an air lid and axhaust. THAT'S IT, he had it tuned somehow to make it lope. i asked him and he laughed and said it was 'a secret.' a mutual friend of ours is a master tech and knows a lot about 96 and up everythings and their ECMs...i think he had something to do with it.

anywho, thanks for your help. i'll get some pics and stuff up here when i can.
