Need some info, I have already cut the hole for the pump install, How are you all getting the sending unit out of the gas tank after the whole is cut in the floor? Hard lines don't seem to want to let me pull unit out!!!

i disconnected the hard lines to change mine. I dont know the exact name for them but i call them fuel line disconnects. If you go to any auto parts and tell them you need to disconnect hard fuel lines. They should know exactly what you need.. They will come in a set of i believe 6 varying in size, white and plastic.

you have to disconnect the hard lines. I actualy cut my hole in a L shape in the front towards the driver side so if you look at it standing behind the car it looks like a upside down L to get to the fuel disconnects

DO NOT have to pull the hard lines, just cut out a little square over them so the hole is more of an L shape.

When the pump is half out you have to turn it to get it out.

As in pull the top of the pump towards you so that the bottom of the pump assembly is moving away from you. Or is it the other way around.

It does NOT come straight out up and down.

Yea, cut an L. The guy that showed me where he cut only made a rectangle cut, and I laughed cause it took him forever to get it out.

Mine was only cut in a rectangle shape, and I cut my fingers every time I had to disconnect the lines. But a pump change still only took about an hour. Id rather not cut an L shape and have that flimsy corner flaping around. My tank is sumped now, so all I use the hole for is accessing the fuel return line to disconnect it from the sending unit

I cut the L, but I took the time to bolt in a piece of Aluminum over it to cover it up. It looks like it's Factory, and you can't tell it's there. My change took me about 25 minutes.

I cut the standard rectangular hole and only took me 30mins. I used two flat tip screwdrivers to undo the Fuel lines. Just gotta know how to manipulate your hands to get them where you need them .

Can you clean the tank out with it still on the car? I guess I'm still torn on if I want to drop it out of the car or do the trap door method.

Merv, do you have any pics of the plate you made? How do you attach your plate? If I cut a hole out I want it to look neat when I'm finished.

I covered mine with a piece of aluminum sheet. Just slightly thinner than 1/8" (3/32"?)
I also used some self adhesive foam weather strip around the border of the cover plate. The weather strip was about 1/2" thick un-compressed. With sheet metal screws holding the plate down its no more than 1/16" thick. So it seals good, and doesnt create a noticeable bulge under the carpet.

its really easy... i cut the rectangle hole, just use a pair of long nose plyers.... works wonders... the one that hard to get to make it last and go ahead and have the pump unbolted... so when it clicks just twist it clock wise and it will pull out.... then twist and work it to comes out... really simple...

I just measured and made the cut, and laid the pieces that I cut out on a piece of Aluminum, and drew a line to cut on about 1" around each side, so you have an overlap. Then I drilled the pilot holes, and bolted it in. It literally looks Factory if you pulled the Carpet back. You can't tell it's there unless you pulled the Carpet.
The pics are on my Computer which isn't hooked up right now..
