Default pinging noise when not warmed up

hey guys\girls this problem has been going on for a while now and its getting on my nerves latley. When I first start my car and the motor is still cold it makes a pinging sound when i start driving. The sound starts at about 2300 RPMs and up. It doesnt stop until the car is warmed up but its gotten louder over the past month or so. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks
Jeremy

Spark too advanced for when it's cold and in open loop (open right guys? I get them backwards alot) and when it's warm and switches the computer can compensate for the timing and thus no more ping... So... um spark control, optispark?

Throw it on a scanner and have it monitor the timing while it's running. It won't hurt it per-se unless you are really thrashing on it. Mine does it too but due to bad O2 sensor and close to WOT.

A shop, they may or may not charge you, buy one ($300+) or around here the local parts stores rent them out. Autozone and Checker/Shucks/Kragen.

Seeing as you don't quite know what's going on, I might recommend taking it to a shop then. That's totally up to you though.

If you are detonating, try running higher fuel. Get it richened, or your timing might be off.
