Default changing valve springs

When changing valve springs is it really necessary to pull the spark plugs, I'm using the top dead center method to keep the valves up and I really don't see the need to pull the plugs am I overlooking something?

With the spark plugs installed the motor will build compression as it's turned, making turning it by hand difficult as you move from cylinder to cylinder. Taking the spark plugs out gives that air somewhere to go so you can turn the motor easily.

Also, you can visually inspect your plugs to get an idea of how your car is running..
