View Full Version : Who Is Running Stock Drive Shafts and Mid 11s?

As the title say I am wondering who is still hanging onto the stock drive shaft and in the mid 11's. I am going out tomorrow night and hoping my drive shaft will hold.

My previous best was 12.07 with a stock 10 bolt and a 3:23, stock Tq Arm and a bad tune. I now have a 9" with a 3:89, Adjustable Tq arm and a great tune.

So, how much do I have to worry. I am running MT ET Steet Radials. I hope to joing the 11's tomorrow night.

Here is the video of the car after the new stuff was added (tweaked the shift points a little more after this video was taken). They did a 1/4 mile run on the dyno after the tune. I still have a problem with my tranny 2-3 shift.... Clutch packs are shot.

I am on the entire stock drivetrain, with Motive 4.10s being the only change. I ran 11.7@121.5 with a 1.889 60ft last time out on SLICK Nittos. I have had the car re-tuned since then and picked up another 15/10, and I was short-shiftn the car, but I had the limiter bumped up as well, hoping for some 11.5s and 123 traps.....I also should have my new set of DRs in this fri, just in time for the track sat :)

When is it necessary to upgrade your driveshaft? I didn't ever really view the driveshaft as a weak link in our drivetrain, but maybe I was mistaken?

I would imagine that the A4 can push the DS farther than the M6. I don't know if I would worry about it yet, but if you have the money you might as well change it because you cand mess some stuff up if it breaks without a driveshaft loop.

I just tok a look t the video in your thread and my car does the exact same thing on the 2-3 shift, bangs the limiter. Are you sure it's your clutch packs? On mine it is definately not. I had my tranny built, dynoed it a week later and that's what I got. The tranny guy said that the accumulator piston cannot or has a hard time sealing over 6000 RPM. I was able to mostly eliminate it (still just barely taps the limiter) by raising my rev limit and commanding an earlier shift. Just a thought.

I ran a 11.0 on my stocker. And then with my new set-up (Before the motor went) was set-up for mid tens and it still held strong!

I see you have an a4 it's a big difference comparing an auto to a stick. It will probably last longer in the auto.

I ran 10.61 with the stock tranny, rearend, and driveshaft. They are getting a 21 gun salute burial when they die.

When the car was tuned they dropped the shift point (2-3) all the way to 4,000 and the rev limiter was set at 6,600. It still hit the limiter. There are no problems with the 1-2 shifts. It is fine until the 2-3 shift.

All I can say is I pray it is the tarnny since I am putting in a rebuilt one on Friday (Cross My Fingers).

Thanks,

Bill

Look how heavy your car is though. I know they are weak, just don't have the money for a new one. Maybe mine has lasted longer because my car is 300-400 pounds lighter?
