well I'll throw some pics up of my Senator to give you guys and idea of what we get over here, this guy is running a bit late.
For those that are unaware the Senator is the luxury short wheelbase HSV model. Mine has all the performance options that are standard on the Clubsport R8 as well as a few tweaks of my own, like the intake and custom short shifter its a 99 model as was the same era as the original GTO design. The rear lights on my car were actually the same as the prototype GTO. I still think they should have used them instead of what they ended up with. What do you guys think.

Is there really a gain of H.P. for the O.T.R.C.A.I.? I have heard mixed reveiws about it, and it's so expensive to get one over here($600 U.S.). I do like the car, but not a fan of the hitch.

The gains are quite noticable with an OTRCAI. Here it has been proven that they are the most effecient intake for the LSx

Nice, very clean, minus the hitch.
macca_779
08-27-2007, 05:13 AM
Yeah I bought the car with the Hitch and if I removed it now I'd have a dirty big hole in my bar. The neck does come off which leaves a cleaner look but meh its my daily not a show car, and as a result must do some hauling duties. I have a Subaru Outback also, but that thing can't tow large loads. The Senator pulls no worries and being 1800 odd kg makes it pretty stable too.

I dunno man the American car market is so different to the rest of the world. What the rest of the world thinks is cool we don't and vise-versa. I personally love those 4 door Commodores, Pickup Trucks and Wagons but Americans don't. That's why the GTO never did well here. I guess a big'ol honking hood scoop on your 2 door car with cheap ass plastic interior that looks like it came from a Cavalier is what makes a muscle car cool!

I love the cars they have done there. Pretty much everything has an LSX option if I'm right. They still have an El Camino (Ute) and Lumina SS's are pretty sweet. The new Commodore are just absolutely the stuff would die to have one of those imported over here. Nice cars guys weird seeing the gas tank on the passenger side of a big LSX car though. All part of the RHD setting I guess. Do your guys small cars have the tank on the left? Just wondering

You're both right... I think Rhoop isn't realizing the driver side is on the right over there
It is weird having the gas door of the GTO on the right (passenger side in America) side but I guess that's one thing they saw pointless (and rightly so) to convert...

Gas tank fill point differs between manufactures here Ford has it on the left Holden has it on the right.
I looked up the cadillac catera. And from what I can tell it was basically a bastardised version of the Opel Omega. Sharing the platform with our Commodores but not much else.
I think when the G8 lands you guys will get a nice surprise on what our car industry turns out. The G8 is comparable to our SSV Commodore. Perhaps in time GM will broaden its importing to include our Premium HSV's. I'd love to see a GTS over in the US carving up the American performance cars. I can see the reviews now.. "It has 4 doors and it handles.. OMG does it handle"

Would someone post a pic of a new LS2 commodore or a VY - VZ HSV R8 or something or even one of the last Manaros with the scoops?
Those bush cars are models from the 90s(VX and AU etc) when American cars IMO were beter looking but a lot has changed in the last little while and now the bush cars have got a lot better and F bodys and GTOs are finished.I know the new one is coming but I think the new HSV commodores are awesome but just a rip off when it comes to price I think Aa new GTS is more expensive than a ZO6 un beliveable these bush cars are Corvette money????? SSs and XR8s cost about same as LS2 vettes and they are Holden and Fords low grade sports versions.
Buy the new G8 V8 version is going to built in Australia then shiped to states and be 20,000 cheaper than a SS WTF are my figures off the V8 is $30,000usd well what does a SS cost in OZ about $50,000aud?? And current exchange rate is close so what is up with that??

not really that expensive mate. A commodore V8 is worth about what the average person earns in a year.. With our dollar climbing fast and predictions that it will eclipse the greenback by years end. It makes it difficult for Holden to justify exporting our high end models. I'm loving that our dollar is kicking arse at the moment. Just bought myself a cam package from texas speed for under $900AU. A few years ago you wouldn't much change out of $1500

A brock director is basically a top of the range calais spec vk but hdt enhanced from factory spec v8s model.
I beleive they come in white, bronze, silver + rarest of them all in black .
you could specify a manual from the base auto transmission +up to the undocumented 330bhp/308 ci emission legal ,blueprinted engine from hdt.other options were posi lock diff,2.60/3.36 diff ratio options.16in rims, body kit including ,sideskirts, spoilers+bonnet scoop, electric sunroof, bilstein shocks, upgraded spring rates, leather seats and a towbar.
They will eventually in time, become the next wave of most desirable cars in oz and be remmembered as the very last muscle car ever produced with no catalytic converters which interm made them ,the last legal nicer sounding v8
H&m headers were responsable for that very distinct and exotic sounding exhaust note, they were contracted by hdt to develop the best exhaust system for the road and race cars, along with countless of weeks dyno testing and evaluating different parameters to get the most out of them.
when I tuned a few of them years back,I used to tell the customer to take it for a spin around the block on his own,and refused to ever get in any of them cars (manual ones anyway),because I liked the sound of them so much,I just wanted to hear how they sounded:D
then when the customer returns,I lied by telling them, I thought I heard something wierd, and I want to double check, can you please thrash the car around the block again? so off he went again.:D :D

Yeah yuh ever wonder why cars in the US have clutch switches so dummies wont start their cars in gear or LSD diffs without traction control, I could go on forever, manufacturers are afraid of getting sued by folks who just can't accept the fact that they are stupid. Why why why wont GM or Ford for that matter import these Utes. They are so freakin cool. Who cares that they can only haul 1000lbs. Dudes with 1500 pickups just toe jet ski's anyway right.
According to some reports, we are getting the Ute as a Pontiac.

Runs a 800hp Garret Ball Bearing Turbo, 3.5" Dump into twin 3" pipes, a custom cam and ported heads with 1.7yt Roller Rockers. The engine is out at the moment and getting a forged standard stroke bottom end after a cylinder lost compression and it collapsed some lifters. Probably a bigger custom turbo grind cam too because the original was really a NA cam. Was 392 rwkw at 10psi before the motor went and is being built to easily see 15 psi!

Motors been done in my ute I'm running it in at the moment, ended up staying 346ci with SCAT I Beam Billet rods, ACL Forged dished pistons C.R dropped to 9.0, stuck with the 228 cam, and ditched the yella terra rockers cause they kept breaking. 2000kms to go on the motor then we go for 16 psi!
Also a couple of pics of my mates HSV VX Clubsport R8, 20" mags, full leather Coulson seats, sunroof, M6. Enjoy

We throw them all away. MAF's have been proven to be a restriction because of that and the superior throttle response Speed Density tuning provides it has become common place in our scene to run MAFLESS. Hell even HSV (The Australian GM Performance Devision) released cars MAFLESS. The days of SD tunes not being able to compensate for weather changes are long gone with custom operating systems like EFI LIVE's OS3. I don't understand why US Tuners haven't embraced this method. Perhaps their understanding of it isn't as sound as ours.

I see where your coming from here, but to get it you have to understand what our cars come from. The core design is not purpose built muscle car. Rather its run of the mill family sedan. What we have though is an extremely strong following for performance in these such vehicles. Looking from an American perspective I can understand the unpure feelings of our vehicles being classed as muscle cars. Australia simply doesn't have the money to design, build and justify purpose built 2 door hero cars like the corvette. The monaro (GTO) was our last and it didn't sell enough to justify its future even with US sales. Instead our car makers modify the base product to a point where it becomes a sudo muscle car. You guys have the G8 now so you can have a taste of our entry level V8 cars. Still though we have far better products available in the HSV stable that the US will probably never see.
I look forward to going to Alaska next month and driving some of the US's finest

As macca said, these are primarily family cars, as our market does not allow for a purpose-built 'sports' car, but these go very bloody well and we have N/A cars running low-11s and even high-10s over here, which is decent, considering they weigh 4000lbs.
How many of your 'family' cars in the States can do that and still be driven to the shops, schools, etc, performing family duties on a daily basis?

Hey Tap Dat SS I always liked the new SS's even though they are WWD but I was wondering if they have any torque steer, I know the Caddy STS's have it bad but there is no doubt that powerful FWD cars are fun to drive though just in a different sorta way.....
Actually, for a torque filled FWD vehicle it does not torque steer too bad. I began researching why and albeit, the half shafts are not equal length they are equal "stiffness" as GM puts it. The weight over the front wheels is supposed to be equal and the engine mounts allow it to move fore and aft but not twist. The Impala also has a bit of a shorter final drive (3.29 as apposed to 2.93) as compared to it's LS4 powered Pontiac brethren. The only time I actually have a problem with torque steer is when the tires are spinning then finally grab traction, it will jerk the wheel. As far as just hammering on the gas or through down shifts and upshifts, she tracks as straight as an arrow. This is nothing like my 98' GTP that made about 300 WHP and jerked the wheel out of my hand at all times. As far as handling characteristics, I was pleaseantly suprised considering the car is based on the archaic "W'-body FWD chassis which I believe was originally designed in the late 80's early 90's. I feel a little more confident pushing it through the corners than my last 1991 Taurus SHO (with original suspension components) but, it does show it's height and heft as there is a more noticeable amount of body-roll. Hopefully, this will be addressed when I dive into the suspension modifcations. Overall, I love the car for it's fun, practicality, space, ride and ability to drive through any nasty blizzard old man winter can send my way. I would say my only major gripe with the car is the seats. Where are the bolsters? This car doesn't have any. I was so spoiled with the SHO factory buckets (co-developed with Sparco) that had adjustable bolsters that would hug you as tight as any racing seat. I see the new HHR SS has some great seats and the Pontiac LS4's got some nice seats but not my Impala.

Been a quiet year for me, new set of rims and only 4 road trips in the ute. Collapsed a couple of engine mounts which dropped the motor enough to puncture the air-con piping about 1600kms from home in the middle of summer. Blown a gearbox and some cv shafts, blew out the turbo side manifold gasket and looking at a new fuel system with the benefit of longer range for my trips and better suitability for racing. Got the second mod plate and engineers report for the 6 point cage and 4 point harness, car is all legal in the police state of QLD!!!! Just as well cause its a daily. Anyway pics......

Hilarious?
You must look past the little world you live in.
We have had Chev V8's in 4 door cars for almost 50 years !
Even back in the 70's we had a Holden Torana in a 2 door and 4 door version that weighed less then 3000 lbs with a V8.
Anyway more education time.
Have a look at this 4 door factory equipped Z06 LS7 engine in a Pontiac G8 that we have exclusive for Australia, it's called a HSV W427 !
HSV W427 info (http://www.hsv.com.au/w427/)
6 speed manual on stock 20inch factory tires 1/4 mile run

im just trying to find out why some people are bad-mouthing these australian cars. yes, some of them have a trailer hitches. but what does your car do (mine as well)? it drives you TO and FROM work if its a dd. what does theirs do (not all, i know)? they probably drive them TO work and then they use them to DO work... then drive them home after. and for the guys saying 4 doors are not meant to have v8s, i would LOVE to see yall race a '10 cts-v, or a vxr8. it makes no sense to bad mouth them. its a family car with over 500 hp for cryin out loud.
They could be driving audi's, bmw's, etc, but no, they are driving american/australian MUSCLE! :usa:
well thats my rant, have a nice day :D
