Default Winter oil...

Well, I am due for a oil change again, and the car is going to be drivin through the winter.

I currently use the delco stock filter, and mobil 1 10w30 full syn. Should I go with something different for the winter?

I use 5w30 in the winter (nov - may oil change), and 10w30 or 10w40 in the summer (may - nov oil change). Mobil 1 synthetic. I don't put enough miles on the car to warrant changing the oil any more often than 2-3x a year at most.

I'm in IL too.

now's a great time to get that watered-down junk they market as mobil 1 30 weight oil out of your engine. time to switch over to something good, like GC 0W-30. not only will it outperform mobil 1 in the winter time, it will outperform it in wear analysis, it doesn't shear nearly as easily, you'll have more oil pressure...the list goes on. i know it sounds harsh, but if mobil 1 xW-30 was free, i still wouldn't use it. it's a very poor performing oil compared to GC 0W-30 and mobil 1 5W-40. since you want something good for the winter, GC 0W-30 is the way to go. it's a great oil to run all year 'round.

Not gonna go with GC, sorry, but its too hard to find around here and I wont order it.

Mobil 1 5w-40 would work good?
