Hey fellas,
I am moving to Fort Rucker Alabama for military reasons. Where are the drag strips in that area?

I will try and check it out. Do they have a website?

Closest drag strip is Montgomery (about 90 miles north).

First Saturday of every month there is a cruise-in in Enterprise. Usually a couple F-bodies, sometimes a good bit.

Other than that no one really gets together around here anymore. :disgust:

theres montgomery, 90 miles...OR theres Cottonwood which is on the southside of Dothan...its a 1/8th track, and not the best around, but hey, its a heck of a lot closer than Montgomery. Then theres Breakaway, pretty decent track, and its just about as far as montgomery...i'm from Dothan myself. Check out PanamaCityLSx.com ...theres a few Dothan people on there.

The one up here in Montgomery is pretty nice actually. They run full quarter Friday nights 7pm to 11pm (or whenever). Whether or not the track prep is great depends on what's going down on Saturday, so watch the schedule online, and try to plan to go on nights before big weekend events.

well that junk needs to change :D ...too many fbods floatin around here, need to get them together regularly, haven't done the "car thing" in quite a while.

Enterprise's cruise in is this weekend btw.

There's also West Barbour Dragway in Louisville, AL. It's 1/8 mile TandT on sundays 11 til ???? other side of Clio, AL. I live in Ozark and it's about a 35 min. drive for me. Probably going there today.

FWIW, MMP just changed TnT to Sundays from Noon 'til dark... Just FYI.

I'll be home the 16th... I bought my headers yesterday and im putting them on the 17th... eric and allen.... if you could swing by where I am to check out the progress or give a helping hand that would be great.

What platform are you aiming for - Longbow Apache, Blackhawk, Chinook or Kiowa D model gunship?

Or are you going to fly the TH-67 (FAA bird)?

Since Rucker is the home of Army Aviation I figure your not comming just for the clam chowder or chili...lol.

We all start out in the th-67...

Then branch out from there. You don't know what you'll be until you finish primary and instruments in the th-67 and your advanced airframe choice is weighted by your class rank :)

Actually they start in either the TH-67 (FAA bird) or the OH-58 Kiowa A/C (Army version), most probably you're in the TH-67 because we have gotten rid of over half of our A/C as we are transistioning from that platform to the Bell ARH (think Magnum PI). Rucker has 174 TH 67's and only about 35-40 Kiowa A/C. The ARH's should start arriving around Jan. unless it has been moved back again.

They put you in those to start learning because they expect you to crash from time to time, and its much cheaper to crash a 4 million dollar bird than a 22 million dollar Apache or a 20 million dollar Blackhawk.

Not to worry thou, we paint much of the bird orange so we can find you better when you crash.

I don't doubt your correct about the pre-training or beginning training. Its been two years since I delved into how the beginners were initiated. That and I have nothing to do with the FAA birds, I'm strictly Army - operating under TM and DMWR directives. I only go to Carins for the medivac birds.
As far as the ARH I'm glad to hear it will be delayed even longer than I thought, with the 60 M model comming on board soon thats one less platform I'll have to deal with.

I've not had time to actually see what the ARH bird looks like, but I was in a meeting with the Maj Gen a few months ago and when he asked for a description it was described as not unlike the Magnum series bird.

I know this is a late response, but I just graduated from 1st WOCC.
Your right, I am not coming for the clam chowder. I will be flying the UH-60s.
Where are the tuners around here?
