Default want more of a cam

This is my dad's hawk we're talking about, not mine. He got the head and cam kit from SLP (please, just let it go), the AFR 225's we believe, it didnt come with a flow chart, they were "stage 3" heads, and came with a 234/228 .571/.575 cam, we believe these are the heads (never told us what ones they were....) http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=12225, he has a fast 90/90, 4000 stall, 12bolt moser and 3.73's, hooker LT to dual 16" bullets, electric water pump, bogarts, m/t slicks out back, smooth bellow, and the last time the car was dyno'ed it hit 393rwhp/372 rwtq, and his quickest run to date is 11.93, well, we think he should be making a TON more power, and we think a huge part of the problem is the cam. Is there a cam you would reccomend for his aplication? he has room to grow with the injectors (42lb/hr and walbro 255 pump) he wants somthing like the f14 or the t-rex, what do you suggest? (goal is mid 11's)

He should be easy low 11s with that setup. My car is capable of high-mid 11s and I have a 224/228 cam and some random CNC'd stock heads, a 6spd, and stock 3.42s. Well, I went 12.3@118. It will be mid 11s once I get the 12-bolt/3.73 installed with ET Streets so I can launch harder.

Just a "for instance", my 3850# z28 makes 400hp and 385tq on a mustang dyno and run a best of 11.67 @ 118. My set up is all of the bolt ons, 3" x-pipe exhaust, aluminum Weiand intake, Patriot S2 5.3 heads, 220/224 530/534 112 cam w/ 1.85 Comp rockers. 410 spool in the 9''. Best 60' was only 1.73. As far as which cam to go with, I would spend some time in the "dyno" forum and look at all the graphs you can find. This little cam of mine make 300# of torque at 3000rpm. Less duration and more lift, or more duration less lift. Either way will get the volume up. Get away from reverse split cams though. If you're NA keep a standard split. Save the reverse split cams for the FI cars.

The highest lines are on the juice..

well another thing here is we are at 4500 ft above sea level at the track, and it runs up hill, and he was still managing to pull the 11.92, even though i KNOW he should be quicker, thats not bad for times

You've got an automatic that explains the low dyno numbers. Auto and stalls dont show well on the dyno but they do at the track. I dont like the cam either but your making decent times at 4500 ft. Maybe a 234/240 or talk to LG for an g5x4. Trex will require flycut I believe.

I have an a4 car I'm saying this from experience. If you put in a bigger cam that moves the power band up higher you are going to need a bigger converter. If peak trq is at just for giggles 5500rpm lock the converter at 5300rpm and then watch the auto take off. A4 cars aren't that bad with big converters they will lock up in drive and overdrive. When an auto shifts to second with a 4000rpm stall you are pulling the motor down, where its not making power on cam. Don't say I'm wrong until you run a 5000 or 5500 rpm converter.
