I dont think anyones lasts too long, that really sucks.

though my kevlar gloved aluminum wrapped is still holding up well, but doesnt insulate much,
im going to try some insulation here from work soon and see how that works.
least all my junk was free.

When I was tuning the neon, I jumped out of the car after a run to adjust the WGA at night. I opened the hood and the turbo was glowing bright orange. They get super hot, I just didn't realize how bad it was.

Damn, looks like someone got a bad batch. The two blankets I got from them (although they were grey) showed no sign of a problem while I had them. I'm sure FI will get you fix up!!

On a bad tune or hard driving a housing can see in excess of 2000 degF. We get them hot enough on our diesel that you can see the turbine wheel spinning inside. Of course that is with 2200+ degF EGT's.

Is your timing way low or is the tune way rich? I have the same one from Jose and it's been on the car for about 15,000 miles and still looks new.

Mine looked the same as when I bought it new as well...

After a whole year of driving with the MPT-70, too. That thing's GOTTA be defective.

Mine is a silver color, though.

Did you have an exhaust leak on the DP V band clamp to exhaust housing connection??

I still have to get one of those blankets, too bad the GP didn't happen.

I am wondering if I should get myself a pair of turbo blankets for my setup.

I am happy to hear that this is an isolated incident and most others have not had any issues with them.

Good luck getting it taken care of.

Thanks! I didnt have time to call today. Fixing the car as sual

No exhaust leaks. My WOT A/F is about 10.8:1 right now, but Ive only been wide open 1 time in 1 gear (I shifted at 5500) untill I get all the bugs worked out. I have too many other issues to worry about fixing

Nah, you're not seeing the turbine wheel inside it. You're seeing the heat shadow on the housing as the heat passes by in waves. You see the same thing with J58 engines, somewhat visible in this pic:

May look at the tuning at cruising. If the timing is pulled way down or afr really high.. that turbo will glow red in no time.
