Default Ocala drag strip?

I heard on the radio this morning that Ocala Speedway was applying for a permit to build a new 1/8 mile drag strip. Anyone else hear anything about this?.

I talked to several dragracers at the Street Nats and they supposedly already have the permits and begin construction soon . It is most likely going to be IHRA sanctioned( in the works). I will be at this track alot.

Yep! Big Daddy helped them a lot in getting the signatures needed and the permits!

Yup, heard about this awhile back. Didn't think it was actually gonna go through though. I know I'd be there often! 1/8th mile isn't that bad at all.....that's where the race is won or lost. The last 1/4 mile is mostly just the car....the launch and 60' is the most determining factor in your E.T.

I prefer the 1/4 also but black00ssFL is correct, it all happens by the 1/8th unless you have a poor suspension setup with too much power (read as SUPRA) where you need the last 1/8 to show off you mph. There are very simply and very accurate calculations for 1/8 to 1/4 times. There also seems to be alot less breakage when your car is setup for 1/4 and you only run the 1/8. No long periods in high gear on or near the limiter.

well its better than nothing imo......No way they would put another 1/4 strip so close to g-ville. Gainesville is only 40minutes up the road when you want to run the full 1/4

But as they say... "1/8-mile is only halfway there!"

I agree something is better than nothing, but we'll see how many "bumps" are in the road to completion...

Yup, according to the paper this morning, there will not be a dragstrip in Ocala. About half of the citizens at the meeting were against the track opening up the dragstrip. After the owners saw that the county council would be against the track, they decided to withdraw there proposal to change the zoning. So no track for now, guess we'll still have to go to gainesville.

And Horse people too, its big horse country in that area. They're the one's who killed the Wal-Mart distribution center plans here too (that would've pushed wages up in the area, and the horsey people would've have to pay a living wage to their workers).

Well. looks like the 'street racing' will continue around here now.

I guess the people in Ocala that opposed the track idea want street racing instead......I guess more innocent people will have to get hurt before they come to their senses to have a track built so there would be a place for racing instead of on the streets I know u can't eliminate street racing totally, but a track would help a lil bit IMO

I know what you mean, but who is lacking sense here? street racing is dangerous, but I guess you'll show them the error in their ways.

OK OK, I am off my soapbox.
Just thought I would point out a logical error.

Hopefully the track people will have their act together when this gets revisited. I think it could/will happen, but these horse people have deep pockets, so the track peeps need to think smart and do their homework.
