hey guys I'm thinking about going 383 crank, new pistons and rods, keeping the compression around 10:1 or so mabey not sure yet I havent thought much about it. but what do ya think would be best porting and polishgin and oversize valves on stock heads or should I just go and grab a set of after market heads? can i work stock ones to do as well as after market?

The stock motor is 10.4 so 10:1 would be a mistake unless you were boosting it. I am running 11.5 on a stock shortblock with ported f-body heads.
I vote stick with poreted stock castings. The aftermarket stuff available for the mostpart is not worthwhile, the Trickflows are decent but are best left to those looking to go pretty wild as the stockers ported are VERY capable. Do not get carried away on valve size thoughts either guys are getting awesome results with 2.00/1.56 valves.

LE2s are the best bang for the buck. ive been doing my research on all the different options for heads and found that out. AI seems pretty good, but everytime i go to the site it seems the prices are jumping around. AFR is probably the best but you have to really want to spend some money for them. Trick Flows are good for someone whose going crazy with forced induction or spray. its your call but i would do my homework before really jumping into it. if your CR is that low you need to step back and think about your long term goal

I would do lloyd elliot or advanced induction if you are building a nitrous car... AFR's would be a HUGE waste of money in my opinion unless you are going to try to run 8's. Trickflows are aight, but if you compare the flow numbers from AI, Lloyd, and TEA trickflows still arent worth the extra money. If you look around this site the are more people going fast with LT1/LT4 heads than there are with AFR heads
also trust me nitrous will find its way into the combustion chamber regardless of which heads you run... I have stock heads... runs 11.9s on motor with nitrous tune... runs mid 10s on spray... picks up bout 15 MPH in the 1/8th and 25 MPH in the 1/4 ... if you arent building it for a sleeper put a direct port on that thing and watch it fly

thanx guys alot of good info there....to be truthful I havent even looked at my compression ratios yet at all so I didnt really know what I Was going to go wiht, I Was thinking about going with a lil lower for a supercharger but Im still not sure if Im gunna go super or nitrous yet. I wasent to sur eon if I could run a high compresison motor on one of these, I havent really looked into puttin $ into the LT1 lately and I have been doing work on my bike which is 13:1 compression now so Im jsut gathering a bunch of info to decide which way is the best way to go.
Thanx guys.
