Question Do I really want to go 90/90?

The obvious pro to going 90/90 on my 408 with ported heads is the fact that, DUH, it will pick up some decent hp. However, I've already got 475 on a mustang dyno that I can't even put to the ground with my stock wheels. Additionally, the cam I have is pretty much a dog on the street (244/248 .635/.627 112) especially with my stock 3.42's (M6). It doesn't exactly have the greatest throttle response and I don't want to lose any more due to the 90/90 setup. So, I'm wondering if the 90/90 would be worth it considering these goals or if I should keep my ls6/ported tb setup. I'm thinking I may benefit much more by putting my money toward a custom cam spec'ed for my setup... I'm just not sure though. What do you think, and why?

Get the 90/90, 4.11's w/ a 9" if you have the cash. And get the cam if you really want a new one. just my opinion.

you should see a good gain from the 90/90 with your set up.

The thing is, whatever I do will be a winter project and I don't have that much cash. A 90/90 would be the most money I'd want to spend. That's why I was thinking the custom cam and possibly 4.10's route might be more beneficial (although I'd still have the stock rear, but it would hopefully last a while as I can't hook for ****).

90/90 really woke my 408 up.. response was amazing afterwards.

You'd be suprised.

as soon as you throw gears at that stock rear end you may as well climb under there and kiss it goodbye. i cant beleive you have a 408 and your stock rear hasent grenaded yet. gears will speed up that process.

your basically in a lose, lose situation...

3.42's are killing the power of that cam...
you go gears now... eventually when you blow your 10bolt you'll need to fork out more $$$ for gears to accomadate for a 9" or 12bolt

a 12 bolt would be money well spent, just the 4.10's would give you the full potential of the cam. and you wouldnt have to worry about spinning because you could throw stickys at it and not worry about breaking the rear.

9" for m6, 12 bolt for auto before you go any further... i would always go with the route of beefing up ur chassis and drive train before making serious power.

I do not have money for a rear at this point, thus why it's remained stock and I baby it. What I do have money for is a 90/90 setup or a better spec'ed cam and gears for the rear. I'm fine with taking it easy on the rear with new gears as long as they help this dog around town. This thing has yet to see the track.

well 90/90 setup = aprrox. $1500
new spec'd cam = aprrox. $400

new rear = approx. $2000

by the looks of things i think your already in the range of a new rear

RrCoX22
a Fast 90/90 setup is not going to help you any with your gears. if you get a new rearend, you will be able to taje advantage of the power your current cam makes. gears are around 300 bucks so that pretty much makes RrCoX22's post still valid. with a Fast 90/90 and gears you will have a fragile streetable car with around 500 RWHP that is not useable. with what you have and a 12 bolt you will have a car that is not fragile and still streetable and 500 RWHP that is useable.

a 12 bolt is enough for an M6. actully a 9 inch will eat up more power than the 12 bolt.

Definitely go with the rear. This way you can use all the power you are making and not have any worries.

i say save alittle more and get a rear also.even on street tires a few wheel hops is all it takes sometimes to blow it.it may hold on for a long time or it could go south next week.get 3.90-4.10 gears and it will be a big jump over the stock 3.42s but it will feel and act like you picked up 50ftlbs or more because of the multiplication so it will feel like a totally different car in the low gears.the 90/90 will definitely gain up top but your tq won't change much.

I understand what you guys are saying, and I agree that the thing I *need* the most is the rear - no doubt about it. However, a rear is a bit of a ways off for me and I don't plan on getting one until my rear goes, so I'm going to baby it until then. The goal for the winter is to do something in the 1k range. Remember, a used FAST 90/90 can be had for a little over 1k and I can sell my LS6/tb setup to make up for a couple hundred of that. So my budget is less than, or at most, 1k. Completely disregarding the rear, I'm wondering which is the better route at this point... the 90/90 or possibly just the cam.

I know it sucks, but throwing 1k at an intake or cam isnt gonna benefit you. Youve already got more power than you can put down. With 4.10's the car is gonna be a monster...but you'll blow your rearend most likely. Why throw money at the car adding power that you cant put to the ground? I know the "but i wanna do something to the car now thing", but I'd save up another 1k and get a 9" with 4.10s. Its the only real smart option. Then later on, i would definately say go the the 90/90. but it just doesnt make sense to do it now.

The thing is, I have no problem taking it easy on the rear, b/c I've been doing that since day one. I can make the rear last, at least until spring or summer when I'll have more money for the rear.
