Default Scary noise!

today my car developed a loud clicking or rattling noise. i got on it a little bit this afternoon and that's when it started. so i preceeded to "peg it" once and when i did the noise got even louder. i got into my driveway and let it idle and the noise was still there. it's coming from under the hood and it sounds like a belt maybe? sorry so vague but any input would help, thanks!

how the heck are we supposed to know what your sound is if you didn't even investigate further to get a relative location of where the noise was coming from, there are dozens of things that could make a noise like that from "under the hood" we need some more info

well the noise is coming from right around the fan belts. obviously it could be anything w/ the engine since it's directly behind the belts. gonna get my neighbor to look at it tomorrow

if its a banging noise, why do you think its a belt?....have you done anything to the car, that could have made the noise?....
