my buddy has a 1998 camaro and i took a ride with him and his oil pressure is completly normal at idle 40 psi...then he smashes it goes to about 50 psi then drops to 25 or so immeditaly... any suggestions? other then change the oil pump or is this normal for 98s?

well the pump may be bad, or the strainer is clogged.

mine runs at 40psi when moving, and 22-25psi hot idle. 50psi cold start idle.

but 25psi is bad for anything above 2000rpm.

1st...drop the pan and check for any metal or damage....2nd clean the strainer...3rd change the pump....the pre 01s had bad pumps....had to rebuild my motor because of one of those

What oil filter is your friend using? I used to have lower oil pressure, but when i switched to mobil 1 oil filter, this helped to get better pressure. I also have a 98 camaro, and if I could i too would change the oil pump just for insurance, but so far so good, just keep an eye on the oil pressure that's what i've been doing.
