Default C6 or C5+$15000 in mods

I really love the C6 vet but when all is said and done I'm looking at $50K. I am thinking of getting a used C5 ($20K) and throwing about $15K into it (stroked L92 etc) and come out with more money left over. I know which one will be more fun to drive!!!

Any ideas?

Ive thought the same thing for ever. Ive decided being a speed freak, and considering if i bought the c6 id eventually dump the same money into that id go c5 with thousands in mods. Its to much fun to mod a car and im addicted. I love the c6 but the c5 is awsome also and could be so much faster with left over cash. Good luck.

I vote C6. C5 + 15K will destroy a C6 in performance however I think the C6's look soooo much cooler. I would go C6 and mod it slowly over time just so I would never look back with any regrets.

Good luck.

C5 and 15k in mods = nut buster everytime you start it!

That's not even a fair comparison...consider what YOU want out of the car.

Looking to go super fast, put down good dyno numbers and run 10's at the track? Go for heavily modifying a C5. But keep in mind that the more mods you do the more bs you are dealing with, more stuff having the ability to go wrong, etc.

Just want a nice ***, newer, improved upon vette with a warranty? Go C6.

i personally like the looks of a C5 better, IMO there is no better looking vette, except for certain C2's.

I vote C6.

You get a more powerful engine to start with, much better quality, much better looks, better handling, and a newer overall car.

The C6 is just the better car hands down. If all you care about is making the car fast and making it handle, then go with the C5 and mod it up.

Wow, thanks for the input! I like the looks of the C6 better but I can't stand the thought of having to wait for the factory warranty to expire to start the mods! If that is the case I would go with a cam, headers and blower!

you gotta look at the big picture. what tranny are you going to get? if you're going to get an automatic, you're probably far better off with a C6 as the trannies are stronger if i'm not mistaken. but conversely, don't the C5's have a stronger rear end? i'm not sure.

i'd go C6 IMO. you'll have a better motor and transmission your hands, not to mention IMO better looks. a C6 can be made faster than the C5 with $15,000 in mods with a lot less money, also. the only C5 i'd consider is a C5 ZO6. now that's a whole different ball game...but a base C5...pass.

Yeah, the C5 ZO6 is the way to go. Cam+exhaust= perpetual woodie.

C5 Z06 + ~$8000 in mods FTW!!! Either get the c6 or a c5 z06, but I think you will regret getting the regular c5, unless you are completely redoing the car; new engine, trans, etc...b/c then it doesn't really matter what you get...

I'd personally get a C5, I like the looks a little better. If you are dumping all that cash into it, it doesn't matter if you get a Z06 or not.

Well, it's clear to me what you need. I think you should used C-6 with a few miles already and a expired warreny. Decline the aftermarket warranty (I like to tell the dealer I already have toliet paper at home) and then mod it out with what ever you have left. If you were talking about spending 50k you could find a used C-6 for about 40k and drop 10k in mods or even just 5k. If you toss a small stall, cam, and bolt ons thank think would boogie. It would still be a C6 pop off 11's with ease and maybe even 10's if you want to toss a shot on their.
