Question question about high beams

hey guys can any one tell me if the turn signal stalk is suposed to click when you try to tun on the brights? my high beams never worked since i got the car and i thought it most likely was the stalk but then i thought they would at least come on when i held the stalk back but they dont work at all.
im going to check the fuses and relays tomorrow but i figured id ask you guys.
i know some cars have to click when you pull it back to stay on.
also is the brights on there own relay or fuse?
thanks guys

Click on! yes, on my 99 camaro, in order for the brights to stay on, i have to pull back until it clicks. then pull back and unclick to turn them off.

Seems you need a new dim switch. They only cost like $8 at autozone. I dunno how to put them on though I've been tryin to find out for awhile. Someone said something like you have to take apart the whole dash or something.

my brights used to work. the switch got increasingly harder to pull back. and now it doesnt click into place. so brights no longer work for me. hope you get it figured out.

well i figured out the problem and maybe it will help others. the problem is the there is a rod that go's from the stalk to the dimmer switch and it seems the switch gets out of adjustment and the rod is not long enougf to push the switch down anymore.i took the bottom panels of under the wheel and droped the column down but it dident drop far enougf down to get to the 2 bolts that hold it down loose.
if i hold the rod and pull the stalk back it works but once i get every thing back together it stops working.
hope this helps someone.
by the way sorry if any miss spelling im tired lol.
p.s. the click comes from the switch not the stalk.

I went to autozone earlier and bought a new dimmer switch. How many bolts do you have to take off to drop the column? And after it drops can you get to it there or do you have to take more off?

once you get the pannel off from under the wheel there is another plate that goes on with little push pins[2 of them]then push that plate to the pedels then there is a brace for the panel that you took off first thats 2 10mm nuts then its 2 more to drop the colum i think there 12mm or 13mm.its not to hard to take it apart but i couldent get the colum to drop low enougf to get to the switch bolts.

also here is some more instrucions coutesy of 01ws6/tamu thank homie. You have to pull the ign switch off the dimmer switch mounts first and then the ign switch has a tab that fits overlaps the dimmer switch. But to adjust it once you get it on you push it up the column until it compresses the point where the rod mounts and then tighten once screw and pull the stalk back on the column just adjust it until you get a good solid click and it does not hang up. You also have to do this with the tilit wheel in different positions or in some spots it may not work correctly.

Well I got around to doin mine today. I didn't need a new switch. The rod that pushes bends over time I guess. Just bend it back and it will work. Mine's working perfectlly. Just take a screwdriver and put between the column and rod. Push it up. Check and see if your whole dimmer switch clicks first. Also the tilt steering. Tilt it up and see if it clicks. If it does then thats the same thing I had so it's probably the rod. I drive with mine down and I knew it would always work tilted up but not down.
