This was the first race I have gotten into since I put a built shortblock in my car and I also put a completely different Nitrous set up on it too, but I still have the stock heads and cams that are came in the car.. I was spraying a 250 shot and the Viper has a 522CI Stroker motor, Heads, Cams, ETC. Owner said it put down around 720rwhp on motor.. He also has a 250 shot but didn't use it. Here is the vid. We started at around a 55 roll till about 130 mph where I let out due to running out of gears.. I have 4.10's.. I pulled a little bit untill I ran out of gear and let off then he flys past me.. Damn I wish I had my 3.73's back in...

I would figure around 570 or so and over 600rwtq..

Thats what I was thinking. However, the viper owner could have been BS'ing. It was from a roll, so his suspension/launch advantage isn't going to be an issue, so who knows what the deal is. Regardless it was a damn good race, though I doubt the viper had as much power as advertised.

I know the old owner of the viper and it put down 650rwhp when he had it. There is no telling what the new owner have done to it.. But I do no it was making at least 650rwhp but the new ower said he put down over 700 so I'm just going by what he said..

Nice vid and badass mach! Is your car full weight? Not doubting the kill, but a viper with 650whp and weighing less should of really walked away :confused: . Also the viper could have been missing the driver mod? Either way, good kill and nice mach :devil: .

Yes my Mach is alot lighter then a normal Mach1.. My race weight is around 3100lbs but I wasn't at race weight. I still had all my seats in and heavy rims.. on..both cars had a passenger too..

The Viper Owner and driver use to own and drive an Outlaw drag car so I doubt it was a driver mod..

Awesome run I take it he would not run from a dig?. I have not had any good runs like this yet. None of my friends will run me with me on nitrous, but all day long with me on the motor only. Even my 03-04 Cobra friends. Makes me wish sometimes I never got nitrous :jest: .

I'd find it hard to believe with 720RWHP, but I can see it happening with the viper having 650 to the wheels. The Viper is going to weigh more, and I bet you have quite the gearing advantage. As has been said, anything can happen on the street. I'm really curious if the Viper really had said power though.

it was the single best race i ever had in my vette.
i eeked him out..barely.
dead even, then everytime he had to shift he slipped back...then started to creep back up....

then a week later i heard he told EVERYBODY he handed me my azz..

i went fu_kin lookin for him...hahah

granted, if he would have sprayed on me i would have been totally toast.
only reason i eeked by was because he couldnt shift worth a f'k...hahahaha...

Same here man. Was it Brian or Mike Kelly that you ran..Brian was the old owner Mike is the new owner of it.. I wish we could have gone from a dig but he didn't want to and he wouldn't even slow down low enough for me to get into 2nd gear but he was. I started at 3K in 3rd gear, luckly that big shot makes up for the low rpm.. I think that Viper would get drug by my car from a dig..

So your Vette ran mid 10's? That is what I think my car should run..

I would think alot more then that.. I have seen 408 LSX cars put down 575-600.. Like I said the old owner said it put down 650rwhp, the new owner said 700+rwhp so I am just going by what he said..

i ran that viper with my maro. i didnt know he had heads. i knew he had a cam with nitrous in it. but he only made 700 on the N20. i raced him and he said he made 550 on motor and 700 with the juice. i could be wrong, but he told a lot of people this.

The new owner of it said he was putting down 700rwhp and over 900rwhp on the 250 shot.. When Brian had it he said 650 rwhp on motor and upper 700 range on the 100 shot Brian had.. 550rwhp would be very weak for a 522CI stroker H/C/I bolt on Viper.. This is what both owners have told me personally not some B.S I heard from someone's brother's sister's dog's friend.. I'm stating what the old Owner told me and the new Owner told me.. I raced it when Brian had it when I only had a 150 shot about 4 months or so ago and he ran me on motor with me on the N20 and he only put about 1.5-2 cars on me then. My car is making about 150rwhp more now then it was then so that car is alot stronger now then it was back then.. So I know it is making more power..

Nice kill, the faster you go the bigger the advantage for the viper. the op said he had 4.10, assuming the viper had the stock 3.07's that is alot of gear to pull, even w/ 522 cubes.

For someone with a long post to be informative...you should really double check your posts before doing so...

#1) YOU DO NOT ADD drivetrain loss. Why does everyone do that? Adding to a NET figure DOES NOT give you the gross. The find RWHP, you multiply from Crank numbers. Soooo, to find Gross from Net, you DIVIDE. Very basic (7th grade math)....at 600RWHP and a 15% loss, he would be at 705.88 FWHP.

#2) Try reading all the posts. his car's RACE weight was ~3100 pounds.

#3) 4.10s vs. ~3.08 gears.

im perfectly aware of what he told you. i ran it when brian had it. i surely dont remeber him telling me that it was a H/C/I viper. just cam, headers and the juice. but things change in 3 months. he killed me from a 60. he had about 3 cars on me at about 120. well, i hope your new set-up will put something on the new owner even though he has a 250 shot waiting. some day, someday he will go down.

Yea I completely agree with this guy....

Most people on this site as well the mustang boards would be happy to just be able to beat a stock GTS..

They have ran 11.5 at 120 mph by the best drivers 100% bone stock..As well as numerous magazine times of 11.9-12.3 at 117-120 mph...

But your on a totaly different level from us average guys .....Beating a 600 rwhp tourquey V10 is quite a feat...

Beating a 600 rwhp Supra or other car that is PREDOMIMENTLY boost dependent is no were near as prestigous as pulling a NA 600 rwhp car...Since you can often easily get the jump on these high rwhp boosted cars while their still searching for boost...

But the viper has no excuses...His power was their the instant he put his foot down, and you still came out on top...

Well Done...And maybe there will be a hint of fear in my heart the next time I see a gray Mach1

Just watched the video, again. Dude in the viper could without a doubt,...shift ALOT faster. Like, alot faster. Good for you,....bad for him. Sounds like either his clutch spun in HIGH gear for a moment, or he rhode the clutch....or maybe he had some wheel spin(if he really is making over 700rwhp).

Wacth the video again...you'll hear what I hear.

why am I not surprised to hear a vette owner trash the vid and make excuses? And to think, I was actually starting to like some vette owners.

I watched the vid again.......several times. I will agree that maybe he couls have shifted faster. but you word it like he is 'cruse shiftin'. WHat they did (on a public highway) was stupid, but to speed shift a 600 (or 700) RWHP car in traffic, is just asking for trouble. Try and be intelligent and realize breakin' loose in that situation would have been VERY bad. So that leaves one option......the driver needs to 'granny' shift faster..which I agreed with.

BTW - it was only his first shift that was 'horrible'. His second one was pretty good.

Hard core racer does not mean.......perfection. (no offense vseries).

The race is not proof enough?....that was my point.

And if it was a 'truthful' post, he would have realized..sure quicker shifts could have been made, but not quick enough to make a hell of alot of difference without speed shifting..which would have been utterly DUMB on public highways. and as I stated, the first shift from the viper was the bad one.....the last one was pretty good.

As for domestics vs. somestics...i am well aware of who is rivaled with who. But if you think vette guys are 'generally' ok with stangs and only rival with vipers (aside form the terminator) than you are soarly mistaken.....but as I said....generally. There are always exceptions.

BTW - did you get that math problem figured out?

On the 200 shot it put down 530rwhp & 565rwtq.. We ran out of N20 on the 250 shot so I really don't know for sure.. I would figure around 570 or so and over 600rwtq..

Ive raced plenty of 400 rwhp..500 rwhp and 600 rwhp imports since Ive had my viper...But the thing is. That not one of them was rated over 300 crank HP when they were bone stock...

I would have rather raced a bone stock 405 HP C5z06 than any of those cars..

Or even more preferrable a 911Turbo or other high HP Expensive car

I watched the vid again.......several times. I will agree that maybe he couls have shifted faster. but you word it like he is 'cruse shiftin'. WHat they did (on a public highway) was stupid, but to speed shift a 600 (or 700) RWHP car in traffic, is just asking for trouble. Try and be intelligent and realize breakin' loose in that situation would have been VERY bad. So that leaves one option......the driver needs to 'granny' shift faster..which I agreed with.

BTW - it was only his first shift that was 'horrible'. His second one was pretty good.

If that Viper isn't spnning from a punch in second at that speed. I don't think I'd be concerned about losing control on the 2-3 shift. I'm surprised that car doesn't spin much more with that kind of tq. Must have some decent tires out back.

They have 335's, I just fitted 355's and we will see how they hook when this snow is gone.

Well my car has maybe 450-460rwhp and it will roast the stock F1's from a 45 punch. That Viper has much more power and trq than me and it didn't look like it had any real traction issues at all. I would not be afraid to shift that car hard into 3rd on concrete based on what I witnessed in that vid. I've driven a stock GTS and it is very well behaved on good pavement even on the 1-2 shift let alone 2-3. They actually seem easier to drag than my Z.

Belive it or not bro, vipers are pretty easy to launch/walk outta the hole. Even with my buddies 19's(stock ACR with HRE's and a cold air)....I still have tree'd some badass cars on a tire when I was on show boaters..

The first day I drove a Z06, which was my cousins brand new 2002 Z06,...I also drove my buddies, for the first time, 2000 ACR viper. Wow, what a day that was. I think after a night of south beach clubbing(years back) it was a sunny sunday morning. We found a side road, really empty, and they let me take both cars for a spin. Lets just say, in the viper, I was staright as an arrow, launching hard and everything. It just stayed straight, and by my third launch attempt, I had the car nailed to a T. It had soo much torque, I didn't need to over whelm the car with more RPM. Just a nice slip of the clutch, and your off.


The Z...well....that was a much different ride. I think the first shift I made in that car, was on washington ave,.....and it was a 1-2 powershift. That bitch was ALL OVER THE PLACE. It made all it's power soo, different, with the TACH climbing. Unlike the viper, which just chugged through every gear. I didn''t even know I had to shift already in the viper, every time I looked down, it was time to shift. I wasn't used to that, owning a modular cobra at the time.

Anyways, completely different vehicles. The viper, atleast that viper, is easy to drive. The vettes, seem to require some piloting skills. Even stock.

That, was a really fun day. We where single file for a 30 minute, run from the beach, to casa romeo's in davie. My cobra, my cousins vette, and my boys viper. Fun, fun times.

I agree 100% V-Series. Weird that the Viper seems easier to drive fast in a sraight line but more difficult around a track. I've never tried taking one through turns, but this is what I hear. Competetive Mode in the Z makes you seem like a better driver I guess.
