Default School me on the 5.3

I have done a search and can't find a whole lot of information on the 5.3. How strong are the internals? How far has the stock bottom end been pushed? The heads must be pretty fair if people are putting them on the LS1's, right? Which models were the iron block, and what did they come in?

5.3 has the same crank and rods as the 5.7 and 6.0 (except early 6.0). The 4.8 and 5.3 share the same block and heads. 5.7 and 6.0 have the same size valves, but different head volumes. LS1 (5.7) and L33 (5.3) have aluminum blocks. All of these except for the LS1 are truck/SUV motors. AFAIK.

I don't want to come-off sounding like an *******, but it's seriously not worth your money modding the 5.3.

Can you give a reason? I'm just curious, it can't hurt to hear from the people that have done it.
