Arrow WHat cam should I go with?

-I have a 2800 stall and the rest of the mods in my sig.
-My goal is to get the car into the 11s on motor.
-I want to eventually put in a higher stall, but who knows if & when that'd happen.
-The car is NOT my daily driver, but I do want something streetable as it sees more street time than track time. I enjoy a nice lope.

What are my best options?

On motor the biggest cam you can get with that little thing you got for a stall willprob. be a 226 cam or round there. but if you want mid 11's then you're going to have to raise that stall up to like a 3600 and get a ms4 or ms3. or g5x3 or something that is kind of big. but with that lil stall you cant even start to think bout getting a big cam to go in there. the bigger the cam the more air that goes in and the more air that gets out. remember that. that is the recipe for power.

assuming full weight, that stall will make it extremely difficult to get an 11 sec timeslip, cam or not.

after upgrading to a 3600+ stall, i'd suggest going with a 224/232 on a 110 lsa with ~.600 lift using an xe-r lobe.

the stall is going to greatly limit your cam choices, but using a 2800 stall, i think the largest cam you could run would be a 222/224 on a 112 or so.

I did not necessarily mean 11s on just the cam. I also plan on doing heads & intake at a later date.

i think that they understand that but they are saying that stall is way to small. you need to invest in a bigger converter before you go out looking for a cam. get a yank ss3600 and theres nothing wrong with a little bit of spray

This is a really generic thread. There is no perfect cam out there that is the cure all for anyone off the shelf. Your best bet "always" is a custom grind cam designed for your specific application and skill level of driving/modifications.

Do this first:

Intake/Stall/More bolt-ons/Cam/Heads

In that order you should not have it under powered for what you have at any point.
You can do like a 224/224 with that stall and squeeze a 100 shot behind it and probably hit the 11 mark.

im pretty sure, with all bolt ons and drag radials that a 224 cam with a 2800 stall and some good heads will probably get high 11's

as far as i understand the grand am cup is HUGE bigger than the Texas Giant, you would need a 4500 stall? 4.10s with the auto? I don't know I'm an M6 guy, but that cam is GIGANTIC.

I know there's no perfect cam. I am just trying to find out what my best options are. The 2800 stall was on the car when I bought it. Mid 11s are doable on this stall so I am just looking for the cams that can get me there.

I'm not spraying.

For a streetable cam with a nice sounding lope you can check out our Stage 2R Cam.

236/ 602 / 113LSA

This cam will work ok with the stall you have now and still be great if you ever plan to step up to a larger on.

On a LS1 with LS6 CNC'd heads we see anywhere from 430-450rwhp through a 6-speed, depending on supporting bolt-on's.

Thanks,

Chad @ Livernois Motorsports

how about this.... 3.73 gears to help out that stall, and a cam in the 226-230 range on a 110lsa.if you don't hit 11s,you'll be damn close...

With a set of stock fully ported heads and a set of good valves, with about 10.69:1 compression and a FAST TB & intake. I would suggest a cam from Erson Cams with their RH286/.340A intake lobe and a RH294/.340 exhaust lobe on a 112* LSA with a 108* int centerline. The cam comes out with the following cam card:
Advertisted duration 286* int & 294* exh
At .050" lift 226* int/exh
.544" int lift @ .544" exh lift
112* LSA
108* int centerline

This will give you lots of bottom end torque and still work with your converter. It is N2O freindly up to a 225 shot. If you want talk to Steve Tanszi the head cam grinder there at 775-882-1622. I have had excellent results with working with him on my customer's engines.

The above mentioned cam looks alright, but the lift is pretty lazy.

Default 8500 rpm or bust

I was thinking long term valve spring life as per the customer's request for his 00 Camaro. They have a .340 lobe that gives you a .578" lift cam on stock rocker's or even a .355 lobe, .370 lobe, and a .400 lobe(just take your rocker ratio and multiply it by the lobe size for lift). The last two lobes are very aggressive and have a lot of duration at .050". For example my lt-4 cam in my 355 cid is as follows:
Adv. Duration 288* int & 292*
@.050" 258* int & 263* exh
110 LSA
110 int centerline
.640" int lift with 1.6 rockers
.620" exh lift with 1.55 rockers

If I'm doing a cam I'm doing pushrods, springs & rockers too.

Can't you make your own thread? This cam has nothing to do with the cam/stall combo at hand. Plus those two will not mix that well.
