Default auto having trouble shifting

Ok, I just bought a used 2001 Trans Am with 70,000 on it. Its a got a small cam with a 350 stall. For some reason when I gun it and I'm up to 80-90 miles an hour getting to the red line it doesnt want to shift. One time I let off and the other time I hit the red line. Did they sell me a pos or am I doing something wrong when I drive it?

I know they were putting 87 octane in there so I don't know if that could have anything to do with it, but I just put $20 in last nite and when I gunned it today thats when it hit the red line.

Thumbs up

yeah if i dont gun it then it's fine, i even had a mechanic check it out. so i have heard 2 different things that could fix it...lower the shift point with a tuner or get a shift kit. would either of those work do yall think?

I allways try and have people check the least expensive possibilites first .
They I try and sell them a trans or converter if those ideas fail

go to the dealer and let them hook it up on their computer. it cost me 40.00 and they reset the whole car. then i bought my own programmer and did the programming myself. could be the third - fourth gear clutches going out!!! mine would go up to rev limiter and bounce off of it bout three or four times, and then finally shift, turned out to be the clutches

had a similar problem after a gear change... some simple tuning of the shift points fixed it.
