New thread about my LS1 mustang... NEED HELP!
Ok so I finally got an LS1 to put in my mustang... I am going to put what the setup will be and then some opinions on a few things.
5.3 heads decked .015 and ported/bigger valves etc.
244/248 .6xx/.6xx lift cam
Stock bottom end with Mahle forged pistons (I need to know which ones will clear PVC?)
Now I want to stay with stock rods and do ARP rod bolts. Plan on sprayin a dual stage 200 shot... Will I be safe with forged pistons and stock rods with the ARP bolts?
Also I am going with the edelbrock carb'd setup.
Should I
A) go with a 4L60e and a stall and buy the module (I can get the tranny and stall for $300)
B) go with a t56 and wait (do I need anything special to run this if I'm carb'd)
C) go with a th350 or th400
Those are my main ?'s for now. I am sure I will think of more though.
If anyone knows what all I am gonna have to do as far as wiring for a carbuerated motor could they post a list. I am sure I am forgetting things.

Saw your ???'s and thought I would give a little input. (not that I'm an expert, cause I ain't)
I don't know about the rods, but I think if you are going with a 200 shot, I would definately get some stronger rods just to be safe, but that's just me. As for the tranny, I have a T-56 and I think it is the bomb! Plus, I don't think you would need anything special to run it if you are carb'd, but seeing that you can get your tranny and stall for only $300 I would go for that one! That is if you think IT will run just fine with the carb'd engine, because I know that the 4L60e is electronically controled by the PCM for shift points and such, but I don't know much else about them.
Good hunting!

1) buy said 4L60E for $300 and resell for $500.
2) purchase 4L80E and forget about buying any othe transmission, ever.
3) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H-BEA...mZ250002798900
take a look at that for rods/pistons. I was a little skeptical, mainly because of the price, but everyone who has purchased from that company has said they work. I haven't purchased a set so I don't have much say but its up to you. they gotta be stronger than stock rods.

These are the pistons I am looking into. I just need to know what dish I need to go with to clear PVC with my heads/cam setup. Also would the 4l80 require anything special with going carb'd? Such as that box to make it shift. I don't even know who makes that. I had thought about the 4l80 already as well. Dunno if that sucker will fit though.

The 4L60E will hold just fine if built properly, there is a WS6 here going 9.77 on a 200 shot with a Stage V 4L60E and its been doing so all season. If your getting a th350/400 its going to suck to drive w/out lock-up. T-56 will hold but need to be built equally as strong. However, if you have the option of a 4L80E do that.

think of it this way. take the money from the purchase of the built 4L60E and by the 2nd rebuild of a 4L60E you'd have already bought a 4L80E. I picked up a low mileage 4L80E out of a 2004 chevy van for $1200 from a board member. all Im gonna do is install a shift kit, stall, and trans cooler and go racin'

those are the cheapest 4L80E stalls I have come across. It looks like I'll be going there when it comes time to purchase my stall. that 4000 rpm stall looks very tempting!
