Default 224R beats ur valvetrain? TR224 better choice?

im looking at 224 cams, I already picked out a set of mildy ported ls6's from one of our sponsors. But the past day ive done 5 hours of research on this site for best DD cam. I wanted to get a little more out of a 224 cam with a 224R cam from tsp, but I seen some posts that say that the cam wears down your valvetrain fairly quickly and your lucky to get 25k miles out of it.

I cant afford to have this car out of commission every 15-25k miles, is the TR224 my only choice, or does TSP have a similar cam that wont ruin my valvesprings.

PS also add which valvesprings you would reccommend.

well the xer lobes will obviously be a little harder on springs than something like xe lobes but 25-30k is about right.as for springs the comp 918 are proven performers for cams up to around .600 and alot of people are using patriot gold duals on smallish cams also.the springs is a slight headache to change but can be done by yourself in a couple hours or so,just the back ones is a bear to get to.you will leave some power on the table with the less agressive lobe and i honestly don't know how much longer the springs will last but if you are like the rest of us by the time the springs need changing you may be ready to change setups.

XE-R ramp rate is 49, TR is 50 and XE is 53, so not much difference between XE-R and TR

I got a 224 228 on a 110LSA +2 with XER lobes from TSP. I got push rods and springs. If you have more than 50K u want a timing chain. You will need a crank bolt to. I got it all from TSP. U can order what ever cam you want. If you get the every ting from TSP there will give a good price. I would inspect springs every 25k no matter what cam u get.

I've been DD my TR224 since 03 now and it's a great cam. I'm going to check spring pressure on my PP Gold Duals at 25K currently at 20K and go from there. With the price of spring kits and a few hours work I'll probably just go ahead and change them for peace of mind. They only have 20K but alot of spirited driving and track runs.

For starters...you could talk to the folks at Thunder Racing/TSP. With the 224R you cross into the gray area of sigle or dual springs. Duals, obviously more expensive but reccommended with the larger, more aggressive cam will add extra stress to the valvetrain. On the flip side, single spring= less stress/less money.....and, when coupled with heads, you dont need as big a cam to produce like results. So, as I see it (my opinion)....TR224 gets my vote. You use single springs, save money, less stress and extended spring life...i.e....more like 50k before spring change. Of course, if you beat your motor silly....well, then no spring will last very long.
