Default LS1 T/A Third Brake Light Cover??

Awhile back before I got my T/A [ friends call it **** & *** ], I saw a cool third brake light cover on another LS1 T/A. I'm positive it wasn't a blackout or smoked or anything, but when the brakes it light up it read "LS1". I thought it was a cool little character mod to do and wondered where I could find one like it.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?? Anyone else have one on here??

Thanks,
J-WS6

Thats not a cover.

Its letters put on before painting or VHT nightshading the lens itself. Then you remove the letters & the area that was covered is still like stock & lets the light shine through.

There are no actual covers made for the third brake light.

Cool, that's what I was searching for. I'd never seen anything like it before so I just assumed it was a brake light cover. Thanks for the verification.

One thing I always wondered about this...if you use something like nite shades, wouldn't it not turn out the same way? Nite shades is just a tint so it would still let the light through instead of blocking out everything but the letters. Or does it still look good?

Curious because I thought about doing this but like the nite shade look better than the black/painted.

Some light might get through if you didn't get it really dark. But if you used enough it shouldn't. I would just use paint if I went that route. I almost did then just decided to make it match everything else I night shaded & leave the text off.

there used to be a guy that made decals. I've had them on my T/A for almost 5 years now. There was a decal that filled in the outline on the top, and one that went on the bottom of the light and LS1 was cut out of it, so when I push the break, LS1 lights up, along with the sides of the brakelight. I guess no one makes them anymore

My problem is that I don't like the real black look with the t/a tails, I like the smoked/tinted look where some of the tail can still be seen through. Anyone have any pics or a photoshop of how a fully blacked out third brake light would look with a pair of smoked tails? I love the way this mod looks but i'm afraid my rear will be all mismatched

I have a pic of how I did my entire rear section. Might be what you want to see, might not be. Here it is. They are all nightshaded with 3 light coats & 5 coats of clear. Pic isn't the greatest but might give you a idea.

hey flamin bird, did you request your sticker for a TA because they only have Camaro's listed for the options?

At the time I ordered they had them for the Firebird/TA if I remember correctly but then again that was 5 years ago . I've had them custom make some stuff for me too and they can make whatever you want. On the link to "create your own custom 3rd brake light" there's a custom size option. They shouldnt have any trouble making what you want. They were pretty nice when I dealt with them and I think the guy that helped me out was named Justin.
