If you run the two lines together how good does it steer? What's the best way to accomplish this?

I run the factory rack, with both lines open, not looped. With 275 17in rims up front it is an absolute pan in the A$$ to steer the car. With skinnys up front, you can hardly tell the power steering is gone.

Nope, unless you plan on hooking the power steering back up, whats the point of keeping fluid in the system.

I just thought that the system might get full of garbage. Rain, dirt, etc.

One of my cars has the tubes tied. I just looped the two together with a piece of oil safe hose from the parts store and used hose clamps to keep it there. Does not steer bad with skinnies, but I imagine larger tires would be a pain.

I wouldn't be worried about wearing my arms out as much as the reduced reaction time in the case that I ever needed to swerve to avoid an accident.

So it is possible to use the normal rack and pinion set-up as a manual set-up? Are there any problems with doing this other than the toughness in steering, which usually goes away with speed, anyone done this?

my buddy has his looped and hes running skinnies and has no problem. let me just say parking isnt going to be fun regardless but once you get the hang of it its no problem.

As mentioned, loop it with oil safe hose, best idea is to turn it lock to lock once and then put on the hose, this pushed out some of the fluid and SHOULD make the steering a little better than all the fluid in there. BUT it's a pain to drive and it takes effort, skinnies help, spool doesnt. Keeping the stock size steering wheel would help too, I went to a 13" wheel and it seemed more difficult to turn.
Also note that this looping or leaving open will eventually 'tear' up the seals in the rack and if you ever wanted to put it back on (ie PS) the rack may need replacing, I do not know a time frame on this but it could happen. One way to HELP this is to get a reseviour installed down low on the driver side so the fluid could circulate, I dont know that this would ease the effort but would keep fluid moving when turning and keep the air bubbles from the system.

A manual rack will help, but from what I remember you have to run skinnys with the manual rack or the tierods well hit the rims.

As Shon said the only reason to loop them is if you plan to reinstall the PS in the future. I dont plan on ever putting it back on so I didnt loop them. I also have a 13in grant wheel on my car, and would agree that it makes it even harder to steer.
