ever fill up and have gas squirt out?
drove to the station today, left the car running cause the engine was cold and i wanted to warm it up. sometimes the pumps work, sometimes they dont when i leave it running.
well, today it didnt work, so i shut the car off and it still didnt work. next thing i know i have gas pouring down the side of my car .
gas attendant was telling me my tank was full, even though i have 200 miles on on the tank and the gauge said E. there was gas above the little flapper so there was def. something wrong.
drove around for 10 mins, came home, and the gas above the flapper was gone. could it have created such a large air bubble that the gas wouldnt go down? the attendant was telling me that the pumps are designed for that.
ive never had this happen before. if someone stuck something in my tank i would think that it would push its way down inside of the tank and clog my pump before it would get stuck in the filler and prevent gas from going in.
and ideas?

Roy were you trying to put 87 octane in the tank? If so, the car was probably trying to give you the following message.....
LOL. J/K!

ok. so ive tried filling it up two times this week and only got a half gallon in each time. so i figured it must be full, and the gauge was broken.
after hte last fillup i reset the trip so i knew how far to drive. so im driving around, put 40 miles on with the needle way past E. im thinking, alright, 40 miles on E and i would have been empty by now if it really had no gas.
so i take it to work this morning to "empty" some of the gas for winter. well i get like 2 miles from my house and i run out of gas. as luck would have it i was passing a gas station just as my car started sputtering. i rolled into it and it died just as i came to a stop at the pump.
i wait around for 10 mins till they opened up. and what do you know, 16.5 freakin gallons go in. wtf.
now yesterday i stuck a coat hanger in the filler to see if i could measure how much gas was in it...but i could only get the hanger in like 8 inches.
so im totally confused now. if something were stuck in the filler tube, how could a coat hanger push it out, but not multiple half gallons of gas being thrown down it?
could the anti-siphon flap gotten stuck? i dont even know what it looks like or if thats possible.
suggestions?

Honestly, this is one of the oddest problems I've ever seen anyone post about on here, ever.
The fact that the only difference between this successful fill-up and the last failed attempt was that you poked a coat hanger in the fill neck, leads me to beleive that something was stuck in there. But what?
Reminds me of cleaning out a clogged downspout on a gutter. You can put all the water in the world in that gutter but usually you need to poke something down to push out the blockage.
Bad part is, if you did have a blockage, now it's floating around in your gas tank.

i only drive the car a couple times a month. it sits in the underground garage at the condo and i dont think any of the old people would have done something. and if its not there its cause im driving it work where its in another parking garage thats pretty well monitored. who knows. it boggles my mind. hopefully if something was stuck in it, it will deteriorate from the gas, or not cause any harm floating around.

Tell ya what. If my tank ever needs to be dropped, you do it for me. And I'll change your plugs.
