Default Will 6.0 heads work on LS1?

I have come across some 6.0 heads off of a 06 goat and can get them cheap. I just want to know if and what mods would be needed to fit them to the LS1 or will they just bolt on? Thanks in advance.

So L92 heads will work on an LS1 too?

What head gasket do you use when you are putting a 6.0L head on a 5.7L bore?

Thanks -Dave

1loudta when u say they will work do you mean just bolt on and go or slight modifications? looking at both engines the 6.0 heads look like they will bolt on just fine.

Yes you can use them, all you need is the 6.0 gaskets.

no it wont.

while the heads are off replace springs.

IMO you should pull whole motor and trans together and do your cam swap, modify your block, change rod bolts, do your heads, oil pump, timing chain and LS6 intake and your transmission at the same time.. search all the threads about people who have stripped out their block or have broken bolts off trying to do head swaps in their cars.

why change the rod bolts? i had planned on doing everything you just suggested but the rod bolts or any mods to the block because my engine only has approx. 45,000miles on it so i figured the internals should be fine. ls6 intake, spec 3+, oil pump, timing chain, and MS3 or MS4, new springs, push rods, getting the heads p&p.

If you are going to push the engine much past 6000 rpm (and I assume you are with those cams), you've got to go with ARP rod bolts. The stock bolts are a weak link - I've seen many break on new engines running durability testing on engine dynos. I can't believe how many people out there are putting in large cams and not upgrading the rod bolts...

Exactly. It may sound like a huge pain in the *** to remove the engine/trans but in reality it's a lot easier than doing the heads/cam/rod bolts with the motor installed. If you have the tools (hoist/engine stand), space and time, I'd suggest doing what copcar said. It only takes a few hours to pull the motor and trans and the rest of the motor build is cake when it's sitting on an engine stand.

Ok. Thanks for the input guys. I've been doing alot of research on cams/ heads and everything else. Nothing has popped up about the rod bolts until now. As stout as the LS1 is that just didn't cross my mind. I had planned on taking out the engine/ tranny to do everything cause this is not my daily driver so I have plenty of time to do everything I need to do to it. I don't plan on doing anything til first of next year and figured I would go ahead and get a head start on research and parts and start collecting now. Once again thanks for the input.

Can't you just drop the K member and pan without removing the engine and trans?

You could...but it would be easier to just pull the motor out with the k member.

yes, that would work if you are just doing rod bolts.

however, he is going to do heads and a cam. taking the intake off of these cars is enough of a hastle. removing heads in the car is just plain stupid. there have been many people who have stripped out head bolts and/or broken them off. it is 2billion times easier to work on the engine out of the car.

Nope, L92 heads have HUGE intake valves that require a larger bore. And a square port intake like the L76.

6.0 heads from a goat are the same as ls6 heads but with better valves. l92 heads will not work on an ls1, you need a minimum 4 inch bore which is a 6.0 liter bore

For sale section, should be able to find a pair for around $200 if you're patient.
